Non Technic LEGO

Does anyone here design their own models? Or just regard lego as a 3d puzzle that becomes a static ornament when finished?
I build my own. I bought two of the Lego Architecture studio boxes when they came out. I use white Lego to make my own houses and temples, towers, well, anything the 4 and 6 year old want.I normally model to the mini fig scale so they can play with them and add bits.
Here is a house I was asked to make, the girls have added the internals. once they are bored of it I will build something else.

Very "Grand Designs"!
I do a similar thing with my 3yo although using Duplo, my wife couldn't get her head around why I thought one of the big green base plates was a good Christmas present for him but we've had hours of fun building houses, garages, car parks for hotwheels cars etc. He's starting to build pretty good houses by himself now so hopefully Lego is on the horizon but have to be careful with a 18 month old wandering around with all the little bits.

I am only going to get Liberty now I have seen a convincing fix for the face, the plain Nexo Knights shield was a poor design in my opinion.

The obvious snag is that you end up with a USB power cable tail that looks a tiny bit odd and isn't really long enough either. The actual LED wires are very thin... seem about the thickness of a hair but are very strong and annoyingly resistant to bending. This means they can sometimes pop their bricks loose as you assemble other parts and distort the wires already in place. The kit has (adequate but not great) instructions on retro-fitting to an already built model though I built mine in as I went which then meant the wires were in the way for a fair proportion of the build and got quite annoying. I thought I was being clever but with hindsight it's probably actually easier to retro-fit once it's all assembled.
The wires are also thick enough (tiny though they are) to prevent some of the Lego assemblies sticking together properly.... on the camper the entire nose piece is one lump that attaches to the body and the wires (four) stopped the studs latching properly so the front kept popping off. I had to relief a little channel in the back of some of the bricks with a file so that the wires could run through that
With all that said, they definitely add something to the kit and I'd rather have them than not. And they are bright... probably brighter than the actual headlights on my life-sized VW camper Certainly well bright enough to use as a nightlight or just look cool in a cabinet or something. As you can see in some of these pics, they actually shine through the bricks! (although this effect is more pronounced in the pics than in real life, where it's barely noticeable)
