I've got the Beetle, Camper, Mini and Caterham. If I could only keep one it would be the Camper, lovely build and looks great. The Caterham is the worst Lego set I've ever built, I can't believe it passed playtesting as it's unbelievably fragile. I can't even move the thing without something falling off.
To be fair I don't think it was supposed to be a plaything, I'm sure it was meant for "older kids" Bobberoo99 said:
I still have the camper to build, I'd love to see your Beetle should you decide to rebuild it to match your real Beetle, you'd have to do a pic of them side by side!!!
I promise that it shall be done Although I need to rebuild the engine in the actual Beetle first Otherwise it's a bit of a chore getting it out the garageIf you've got the Camper still to build, I'd tentatively suggest splurging on one of the LED kits for it from ebay. Can't remember if I put photos on here (think it was *cough* another forum and CBA to wade back through page after page of this thread ) but my sister gave me a set for my birthday to go with my camper

Only shame is that the interior lights are overhead ones, rather than replacing the Lego "faux-uplighters" between the windows that were one of the iconic design features of the original Type 2 Wetsphalia conversions. But on the plus, they are mad bright!

The end result would be easily bright enough to use as a nightlight, maybe even bright enough to read by! Mine, however, lives on top of the computer because it's powered by a USB lead and that's the only place I can guarantee to have access to a USB port without having to unplug the kids and Mrs L7's endless tech gizmos first

Yeah, I know, I know. CDs. How olde-worldey, eh?
Yeah, the LEDs are a great addition IMHO. Since I fitted these, I believe there are upgraded kits that also include numberplate and/or engine bay lights. The LEDs are tiny, they fit inside actual Lego (or more likely, Lepin) bricks so they actually either click into place or replace existing bricks in the assembly. My set came from Australia IIRC (so probably China, lol) and had good photo-instructions showing how to retro-fit into an already-built model so you don't necessarily have to dismantle the whole thing to retro-fit lights.
I think you can get them for quite a few of the more popular Lego kits now, and also loose generic ones

I bought the light kit for the Statue of Liberty (from China). The instructions were appalling but I got the hang of it after a while and had a really tidy install after about an hour of fiddling around.
They then failed! Such a shame as it looked incredible with the uplighters. That was a month ago and I've not even attempted to unwire it all yet.

I have this being delivered tomorrow.
Unfortunately I’m several thousand miles away and won’t be popping home for a few weeks-
I ordered first thing yesterday but my order status still shows as 'In Warehouse' - I was hoping to build it on Saturday so I very much hope they'll deliver it tomorrow.Unfortunately I’m several thousand miles away and won’t be popping home for a few weeks-

I'm quite new to Lego, but now In my mid fifty's with a five year old grandson I've started buying I think you can get them for quite a few of the more popular Lego kits now, and also loose generic ones
It's taken him the best part of a year to build the camper during his weekend visits. Obviously i help, I get the parts out in their groups and tell him where to put each bit but hes getting the hang of it quiet well.
It now sits on top of an old opticians eye test unit high up the wall in the hall stairway.
Next will be ether the Mack Anthem or the Bugatti Chiron.

Love the lit up camper!!! CD's are NOT oldey worldey!!! I MUCH prefer to actually own the CD!!!!
CD’s are a little too hi-tech for me.......Unlike the Caterham. As others have said the sodding thing falls to bits every time I go anywhere near it!!

The Mack Anthem is a great build. I think it would be a bit more sensible than the Chiron as a next model. I have the Chiron but not built it yet - but if the GT3 RS is anything to go by it will be a bit of a beast to build (especially since I've added all the bits for the upgrades kits on Rebrickable ).It's taken him the best part of a year to build the camper during his weekend visits. The other model that I really, really enjoyed building and could be worth a look is the Extreme Adventure (42069). It has some really cool details on whilst not being massively complicated.

I'm not familiar with Rebrickable although I've just had a quick look. Could you enlighten me on the upgrade kits?Jobbo said:

I now want the light kit for the camper so off to the bay I go.
