Lego VIP early access for this set from today (16th Sep). Had an email saying that if you ordered you would get a free Yoda Lightsabre. Out of interest I put one in my basket online but no sign of the Yoda freebie in the basket. Just a pants Monkie kid thing.miniman said:
The internals are fairly interesting (although I’m not sure the cartridge latch works properly, maybe I’ve done it wrong).
Moving on to the TV now which has more moving parts, will report back!
I had the same issue. Part assembled it's a clever thing and seemed to work very seamlessly but as it progresses, it seems to wok less smoothly and to the point eventually it sticks. I had a fiddle but it does seem to 'delay' on resetting, insomuch as you insert the cartridge and press it down, but to release it by pressing down again, you have to wait until the mechanism has slid back up it's slide mechanism into place. A bit annoying but not the end of the world.Moving on to the TV now which has more moving parts, will report back!
We have a few sets now that have very questionable design decisions which made it through to final build without a retrospective fix (unlike the Wall-E set), which is odd as I thought every set gets a fairly detailed playtest.
The Ninjago Fire Mech looks awesome but the cockpit has an appalling design which we've not been able to overcome. As a result it rarely gets played with as it just falls apart and is very difficult to get back in. Not great for an expensive set.
The new Mario Start Set has a little tower which is hard to assemble without breaking and easily falls apart, and this is in a set which is going to take a hammering from Mario.
Both of those are 'kids' sets so unlikely to see any outcry online from AFOLs that may actually get it sorted. Although the issues with the Caterham (falls apart when looking at it) are also well documented, but that would never have been a quick fix as the whole thing is fragile.
