Some amazing set ups on here! I have a comparatively modest collection but it does include this truck I built on a Scalextric Quick Build Chassis:

Built this many years ago in the garage on an 8ft x 4ft board. Spent plenty of time racing with my boys until they grew up and I wanted my garage back.

Love that

Me on Page 1: Oh, a Scalextric thread on TOTD, this'll be a good read.

Me on Page 12: Researching tracks for inspiration. Thinking Monza with the modern chicanes and the old banking.

Makes you wonder how Hornby are in difficulties with all this fantastic support and dedication to the system...

I am not too up on this kind of thing and really only just getting back into it as my son starts to but I have a couple of questions.
1. We have a digital set up and after a bit of use (30 mins) the light on the power pack suddenly starts flashing and the cars no longer work. Have we got a broken power pack or what is causing this?
2. Can you make digital cars faster and if so how? engine changes? cog changes?

I would be glad of any advice please, thanks in advance.
There may be a short in the track caused by loose braid fibres, try carefully vacuuming the slots all the way around. Also tidy the braids on the cars so that they do not catch the other rail.

I thought about getting back into this again (for the kids obviously). But I seem to remember the cars sticking like crazy. Does anyone else have a problem with rust, either on the braids or the track itself?

It’s through storage/use in a damp, atmosphere and not being used enough!

Here's a circuit, loosely based on Monza that I made for my boys about 30 years ago. It looks a bit sad here because it's up against the side wall of my garage but when on it's legs it had pits, grandstands staring lights and all sorts. We had hours of fun with it before it got dismantled. Love to build another one some day.

Just thought I'd add this for good luck. Back in 1966 approx I combined my track with a friends to enlarge things. Cars were all open wheel such as a BRM. After we had been to a speedway meeting we added sugar to replicate of shale to allow drifting. Bit messy. After going to see a Bond Film we added 3 in one oil which was even more messy and then tyre slashers in the form of pins pushed through the tyres from the inside out. Most of the time they were in effective but occasionally they would clash and throw both cars off the track. I wont mention the incident with his cat which liked to sit on the track. Repeated full throttle would not give it a shock. It was not until we remembered that licking a double pole battery had an effect and so the use of catfood on the slot was tried with spectacular results.Don't try this at home.

Also remember my cousin had racing motorbike and sidecars.

It may be mentioned elsewhere but look for scalextric restorations if you really want to become obsessed.

So you should've made the headlines, it's an important topic smile

Some excellent tracks and cars on here and some helpful tips too.

Here's a couple of other shots of my setup...

This was a layout I had at my old studio..
