I had Scalextric many moons ago and have found myself looking at kits lately again but couple of nights ago, happened across as "as new" Scalextric Sport kit on Marketplace... the Pro Rally set with the Focus and Impreza... and for the "too cheap to ignore" price of £10! What's the catch I hear you cry, well... nothing aside for the guide on the Impreza is cracked so I've bought a kit from eBay for £3. I've had the track set up, the Focus runs and everything is present and correct.
Quick question though, I assume (forgive me stupidness!) but will my old cars run perfectly well on the new "sport" track set up? I assume the answer is yes but just in case I'm missing something!
Cheers

The older cars will be slower as the resistance within the newer analogue speed controls is higher than that used with the open can motors.
Other than that the guides on the older cars might need a quick file to reduce the depth or just fit new brushes and put a chamfer on the leading edge

I've since received the official Scalextric Guide Blade / 4 Braid Plates parts and have dug out the precision screwdrivers and taken the Impreza apart to replace the broken guide blade. On removing the original one, I note it's slightly different to the replacement in the sense to original has two raised "blocks" either side of the centre pin and said pin has a tiny spring on it.
I've fitted the new guide plate, minus the spring and it all seems to fit fine, the braid plates slipped in easily and I've fitted the centre screw and made sure it wasn't too tight that it restricted the guide blades movement. I did the same on the Focus though it was missing the centre screw totally and thus, it has no spring (gone AWOL) and hence the guide blade was just falling out the locating bit. Again, replacement fitted and appears fine - the blade itself is the exact same size and depth and movement isn't restricted in anyway. Though I note the Focus blade can turn to about 45degs whereas the Impreza goes further, not by much but it's there... maybe Solberg can hang the arse out further than Gronholm.
As an aside, it's been years since I last errrr.... played... with Scalextric and jesus, things have moved on since the days of my Night Stages Escorts and my beloved RS500's (though the idiot 13 years old that I once was painted them... badly) These new cars are so much better detailed and I'm quite surprised at the motor set up, ie being sat right forward and in essence being FWD with a band driven rear axle. What is this witchcraft!
But I digress... and back to the original point, anybody shed any light on the guide blade thing or safe to assume it'll be fine?
Cheers

I pre-ordered the Nick Swift car so it should be on my desk at work when I get back from current trip. https://www.scalextric.com/uk-en/shop/themes/mini/...

The 3 car diamond anniversary set I’m not keen on. It’s basically the Italian Job cars without the number plates, I’d rather get hold of the original Italian Job set.

Hello.
Please can you recommend a first set, to be given as an Xmas present.
Budget up to £150.
Any must haves, or must not haves !!!!!
Many thanks
Go to Jadlam Models and have a look at their range. Russy runs it and posts on here. Their custom sets offer better value than a run of the mill off the shelf Scalextric set IMO. Depending on who it is for I'd recommend the high impact cars as they are.more durable. Some of the cars are almost scale models and do not stand up to off track excursions or impacts. Digital offers a much better level of engagement because you can swap lanes and run more than two cars. Please can you recommend a first set, to be given as an Xmas present.
