Another idea for lockdown. Think I'll be setting up a layout in my garage soon.
I did that a few years ago and I put the car outside and I built a massive track in the garage. It was great to enjoy such a big track but I only had it down for a few weeks though. I'd love a permanent track set up somewhere. Love that.

I remember as a kid, me and a mate during the summer holidays would set up a long oval track on the garden path. 25 straights each side, banked curves one end, standard curves the other with a chicane on one side. The fastest were the motorcycle sidecars usually pants on a small indoor layout with lots of corners. That’s a good memory from 35 years ago.
I’ve got 2 from the 1080’s one my Xmas gift the figure 8 with 2x jags. I asked for the Le Mans one but mum and Dad couldn’t afford it and I had countless days playing with it.
I then 8 odd years ago on a drunken EBay night bid and won the Le Mans version with (I think) the C11 or C9 Sauber. Note box hasn’t been opened since it arrived.
Now having both and lockdown and a week off seems like a great chance for some fun.
Does anyone have any track design which uses fully both sets of tracks into a great track?
Want to play it with the kids in the garden and as it’s dry it looks like a great thing to try.

Are my eyes failing? I only see one crossover.
Should there be two? I have another but can't figure out how else to incorporate it.kuro said:

Should there be two? I have another but can't figure out how else to incorporate it.I've also dug the track out again during lockdown. I'd bought a cheap used sport track layout (Impreza and Focus WRC) a few months back but never gave it much thought again.
Built it up a couple of days ago and managed to restrict one of the controllers to only go halfway, thus my toddler can play too without the cars straight lining the first corner at 600mph which he seems bemused about.
I also found some old cars from back in the day... an RS500 and an SCX Impreza, both "modified" by an I'll advised child back in the 90's along with a Merc truck, a widebody Audi 90 DTM (?) and the sorry remains of a couple of Escorts. Hindsight eh?
Elsewhere I found a much more recent collection including a BTCC Mondeo and 318 plus a really nice Camaro and a Porche let Mans car made by Fly (?) and it's bloody quick in a straight line. Granted all need TLC... some of the tyres are iffy, the braids are all knackered (though still work, just) so will need to source some new parts.
I'm also debating trying to mount a short, compact layout on to a sheet of board so I can store it against the wall and bring it out of even literally out out... in to the garden, though that means loosing the flyover but that's no biggie. Even my wife, who initially announced she didn't see the appeal, seemed quite pleased and was soon powers sliding the Mondeo before doing a Mansell into the skirting board.
Cool story etc...

For the most part I'll just be using it on my own for time attacks so may go back to one crossover.
You can use one crossover so one car does the whole track twice, certainly with the old analogue controllers, but as said that does preclude using two cars/controllers for a race!Usually the crossovers are used to even out the number of inside and outside bends for each car to make the laps for fair in a none fig-8 track. Plus the interest of potential car collision.

I have some scalextric clips for middle of the track but could not find for love nor money any of the side track pins for sale... and looks like they are discontinued. As someone suggested in the thread above, could use cable clips cut in half, or I am thinking of copydex or track pins I use for the OO layout.
Let me know what you find or use?

Yes, but as I understand it, that cars are coded to the controller, so with only two lanes, you can run up to six cars on the track. Which can then pass, changing from one lane to the other if required, but I haven't been able to work out what decides how you change lane and when.Daniel

There's a button on the controller, when you're approaching a crossover hold down the button and it will flip the blade on the crossover to change lanes. Otherwise it defaults to straight ahead.
Ok.Because somehow the car/track knows where the other is on the other? Or because pressing the button makes the car emit a signal which causes the track to flick over?
I love it. Why ever not!
Presumably other than the car, controller and base, and cross over, the rest of the track is standard plain old scalextric? Conversion kits online for £140 https://www.jadlamracingmodels.com/scalextric-digi...
All be it the new type push-fit track, rather than than the 'classic' button together track I have.
