Question for those getting models delivered, what is the average time to get the model in your hands from order to delivery ? Is a couple of weeks realistic ?
I've ordered two so far, one took 7 days, the other took 5 days. UCS Falcon next I think. wink

Anyone tried to glue their Lepin blocks?

I'm thinking about gluing the USC sets I buy to make them permanent features.

Heretic ! Burn him at the stake !

Seriously though, you shouldn't need to glue anything for display. The clutch power of the plastic should keep it together, even if its inferior Lepin plastic. The exception might be if you plan on mounting a large set like the UCS Falcon on a wall, on its side like I plan on trying. Even then I will avoid glue if possible.

GT3 builders...what's the friction like in your gearboxes? I have a rolling chassis now, and if I push the thing along on carpet in 1st gear, the wheels tend to slide rather than the engine turning.

TBH I'm not that bothered, but if I can make any tweaks before the body goes on, great.

Yeah, I was planning to mount the UCS Falcon and maybe both USC Star Destroyers to the wall, some drilling might be required too!

the star destroyer needs to be flat - the body is 4 large sections held on by magnets. I've tried stronger magnets but that just makes things pop off at other points.
I waited 10 years to build the thing (long story) and its p*ssed me off so much that I'm probably going to sell it before I end up throwing it out a window.

Bit more GT3 progress last night. Of course I should really have been changing the front discs on my 986 but this is an altogether cleaner was of working on a Porsche haha!

However, I had a bit of a disaster...I'd got to rolling chassis (but pre-engine build) stage when I realised I'd left one gear wheel out of the transmission...just behind the shifter. Total nightmare trying to get it all apart, as it was one of the earliest stages where I'd cocked up. Oops. Anyway, all back together now and the flat 6 is in!

Good fun building it, and gets easier as you go obviously as the parts you are sifting through become less and less.

So after more than a few hours build last night I'm about 20% of the way through the GT3 and here are my thoughts on "LEPIN".

QC isn't as good as Lego, there are a couple of parts with minor flashing still on. Not many but I don't think I've ever seen malformed Lego pieces.

Some of the colours don't seem as good as Lego.

It's not as dimensionally accurate, you *know* just how much friction (new) Lego will have, black connectors are a tighter fit than grey for example. LEPIN is somewhat more variable, fitting exactly the same two parts together and one pair will be tight and the second a loose sliding fit.

The manual has *some* pages reduced in size, this is only an issue when it has the pictures of the parts in what's meant to be 1:1 scale.

All that said if I thought it was Lego rather than LEPIN I would still be perfectly happy.

Oh and if building the GT3 beware when fitting the elastic bands.... I plingfketted both of the little yellow pieces on one side, now lost one and there are no spares for that!

Anyone got the green steam train? Seems like a nice kit for me to build for my home offuce
I was just about to ask the same it's £524 on Amazon from lego
Didn't even know the emerald night train was available!

I've got the Lego cargo train & high speed train, so I might have to pick it up and compare the tracks/electrics.
It never came with electrics from Lego you had to purchase separately I believe.
nerd alert: I have the original conversion kit bought for me in 1980 ? to convert my push a long trains to electric, with the conductor rails in the middle.

all in working order (and boxed still) tempted to get the train to sling it into: to go along side the holy grail of lego trains, the 7740 smile

Ah the 12v Lego trains. I have a couple but the motors are now pretty past it.

I considered buying some replacements but the prices are just stupid.

The Lepin GT3 is currently on sale by AliExpress for a total price of $81.73 which includes delivery, albeit without a box.

It this is a good price & has everyone who has used AliExpress been happy with the service?

Want the GT3 however simply cannot justify the £250 being asked by Lego.

I paid $82.37 and yes. As above order to delivery took a week.

Question...I know there are some pretty serious Lego fans on here, some of whom have both Lepin and Lego kits. Question, when you are building a Lepin set, do you...

a- Not see it as any different to Lego/don't give a monkeys/actually forget it's a knock off
b- View it as a copy that's close but not the real McCoy, for example liking a Dax Rush for what it is, but knowing it'l never be a proper Caterham
c- Look at it in the same light as a Rolex Submariner being sold on a beach for £20

By the way this isn't supposed to be inflammatory. My view...I've not built a lego kit since I was a kid. There's a Lepin GT3 taking shape for my office which I am enjoying, and I know I never, ever would have spent the £250 that Lego want for one...far too dear, especially as Lepin presumably needed to tool up for every brick, not just the new ones. I'm not a remotely serious Lego fan whatsoever, and I kinda forget it's not the real deal, but I don't care.

Well two evenings and here is the progress on the GT3

As I progressed through, I found a new problem with the instructions, some of the pages are too large! It's still only a problem because there are the 1:1 sections to match the parts, eg here perfect scaling:

Then here too small:

^ Piccies no worky Fastdruid...

Built the body frame last night...quite exciting now, and as someone else has pointed out, amazing how it all lines up when you bring it together...

To the guys building the gt3s.

Have you experienced any shortages?

The ones during my build have put me off buying another kit. So I would like to hear especially if you haven't had any. (To restore my confidence)

Despite the fact they said they were waiting for the UCS Falcon to release before shipping my UCS SSD, I seem to have 2 parcels on the way via DHL. I'm envisioning both sets split between 2 parcels laugh.

So far, no. Can I ask, were your parts in freezer bags or sealed bags? How far did you get before you were short?

Same. I'm at the start of stage 3

All my parts were in sealed plastic bags except for one bag.

Only shortage I have is self-inflicted, one yellow piece which pling-fuggetted off somewhere while doing the elastic bands... I need to move everything out to have a hunt for it though so I'm waiting until I've done all the rest.

Bloody google photos are sh*t in comparison to picassa for forums, I'm going to have to start using something else as they are a right pain now.

Anyway, should be fixed

Looks like you're at exactly the same stage as me (except I haven't stuck the wheels on).
