£80 is pushing it a bit in my opinion and is giving me second thoughts. I appreciate this is more than likely going to be a limited run set but even so, pricing it the same as the Camper Van seems excessive.
It's not £80 - it's either a misprice or short-term profiteering by JL, but since it doesn't officially go on sale until 1 October you can't buy it elsewhere for RRP yet.It would be interesting to know whether TLG are aware of what JL are charging.
Smyths had the UCS Tumbler marked up at £10 above RRP earlier in the year after they released a load more stock and there was a rush to snap it up before it went EOL. Quite a lot of folk were able to extract refunds of that £10 from Smyths by complaining - the suggestion was that TLG is not keen on official resellers marking up over RRP. No idea whether it's true or not but certainly a lot of refunds were forthcoming.
If anyone has bought at that price, it may be worth an e-mail to JL customer services....

I think £69.99 is over priced as that it basically the same as the f40. I could drive over to watford and buy from the Lego store or just pop into JL in Welwyn and pick it up from there. There is no doubt the time, fuel and effort of traveling to watford on a weekend will make the tenner more at JL worth it, but as I already think the kit is a rip off I'm not prepared to pay it.
So I filled in the never knowingly undersold form on the website. I got an automated reply advising I'll receive an answer within 24 hours. I will post the result on here.
If that's doesn't work I will have to wait and pick up the Lepin version for £20 in a couple of months.
As a side note: on these questionable value kits (low part count / high price) has anyone ever worked out how much it would be to just buy all the parts off bricklink?

Toms sat on the floor happily building ours this morning, with expert guidance ( interruptions !) from daddy the real Caterham kit builder!
I have to say it's just fabulous, it's the little details that do it for me, the a frame and back axle is a work of art, and even the gear shifter looks and feels like the sadev unit in the real thing.,
We both very happy with our kit!

The Gb10 code at lego.com still works until 4th October. That will soften the pain.
Supposedly the London bus freebie stars on Monday so I'll order then. Flogging that on will further reduce the cost.
Thanks Lurking Lawyer, just got £10 off and a free Bus, definitely takes the sting out of it! Supposedly the London bus freebie stars on Monday so I'll order then. Flogging that on will further reduce the cost.

I'd be interested to see if/how people modify it to make it similar to the prototype
I started building mine last night (was a present, so the price doesn't matter) and am enjoying it so far. Might be tempted at a later date to modify it to resemble my yellow Westfield though.djdest said:

Personally, i would consider converting it to green, not sure how much the needed parts would end up costing though, the set itself isnt cheap to begin with. And you lose the nice printed parts.
