Question for those running a flysky noble nb4.

Is there some essential settings I should be doing for a crawler?

In my trx6 I also installed a new hobby wing esc and motor and the truck flies, my main issue is reverse is very very full on...

Looks smart. Any plans to upgrade?

I've only been able to do the urban crawl recently

If reverse is faster than forwards, you just need to swap the motor wires around, mine was like that.
As for the ESC, just make sure it is in crawler mode to enable the drag brake. Default setting are normally fine, but there are video on youtube showing full setup.
Usually I go down every setting anyway just to check what they are set at.
Also calibrate throttle on the esc and set your steering endpoints so the steering isnt binding at the extremes.
These are all standard things that should be checked on every RC.

The Rastar Mercedes-AMG G63 is a very detailed and realistic model of the G-Class but it is not really a serious RC car. Yes, it can go off-road if you push the limits but essentially it is for flat surfaces only. Your Traxxas on the other hand is a true beast of a machine that can out perform just about anything! I would love to have one of my own for sure! I did recently get one of these though and here it is enjoying some off-road driving...

Was thinking of getting back into RC cars after a spell of nearly 40 years ,I have a 6yr old grandson and thought it may be o-k for him to use .It is a TAMIYA Black Foot with a Sanwa 4ch 27hrtz controler.

I took it along to my small local model shop for some advice and was told by the time I buy a body shell .batteries .speed controller . controler etc I would be the best part off £150 and the model i have is old hat ,as its primarily for a 6 year old he suggested I look at the FTX range RAVINE .OUTBACK .VANTAGE .all could be bought ready to go for less that getting the old one going .

It will be used on grass and gravel as he has a huge field to play around and they suggested these as 4 wheel drive do not need speed at this moment in time .are these any good ,there was no pressure to buy just giving me some advice .
I think I would drop the idea of sorting out the TAMIYA KIT so if any enthusiast are looking for this as spares conversion etc it is yours for a nominal cost +pp along with the radio servos etc its in excellent condition .thanks for any advice on this .

Hello! What Tamiya kit do you have? I'd been keen to get it back running again, I've been tinkering with RC cars over lockdown and my boys love helping out

Dont be so quick to give that Blackfoot away.
Secondhand RC prices are silly at the moment and especially original Tamiyas, some people disengage their brain when buying them.
If its mainly all there, dont be surprised if it raises £100.
People are selling used stuff only 20 or 30 quid less than retail.
Get yourself on some of the Tamiya specific facebook groups.
But yes the FTX range is a great place to start for an entry level RC. Easy cheap spares to get too. Tamiya are definitely not the leaders in RC these days and are expensive for what they are. They trade a lot on nostalgia.

It is the TAMIYA black foot ..no bodyshell but has the the servos fitted for the Sanwa Stac 4 controler 27 mhs green crystal fitted.
I believe this is old hat but told will still work .It will need a battery pack speed controller ,but is like new condition .

Many thanks for the reply ,the guy in the shop said in many cases it is nostalgia that people hold on to these models .I just thought it would be sorted for a few pounds ,but as it turns out a new one is less and a far better a buy being 4x4 now , will look around to see what the market is like ,was going to bin it but seems it is worth holding on to ,will not spend money on it will go down the new route i think esp for a youngster .

Told ya.
BTW that shop owner was lying to you. Yeah £150 quid to get it running at the prices he charges, but not on the internet.
20 quid for transmitter and receiver and 30 quid for a motor and esc.

But unless you like to tinker and have tools and bits laying around you will be better funding a new one by selling this one.

Thanks for the advise you have been very helpful ,will speak with my son to see if the young one 5 1/2 going on 10 would be interested in radio controlled cars ,at present is into LEGO trains and can do LEGO kits on his own .I think it will be a ready made model tbh cant see me building the old Tamiya up again ,so happy to move it on to any enthusiast out there .

Excellent. I got a Tamika Supershot for my 13th birthday in ‘86. Third Tamiya kit I had but the first one I built on my own. I remember it seemed to have later upon layer of protection added during the final building stages but was still quick. Also seemed to have limited steering lock but still seemed to get round corners ok.

Yeah I guess you could say that. Still obviously quite fragile though as both front and rear gearboxes were cracked on this one so replaced with new parts. They are obviously the first bit you make and everything else surrounds them so full strip down and rebuild was required. The lunchbox was a bday present for my daughter and actually turned out just as fast as the hotshot so obviously a new motor was required during the rebuild!

The FTX Vantage is a great introduction to RC. £100 brushed motor and plenty of manageable performance. Lots are tempted to go up to the carnage because it looks bigger and faster, but it is the same chassis with larger wheels and hence has more breakages. Spares are cheap and easy to get, so you can have some fun together with not a large outlay.
But be wary it an entry drug and you will look at bigger things. All I'l say is dont spend too much upgrading. After a while you will be better off just buy a better RC to start with.

After a break of 8 years I’m back racing. This time with an Xray T4F’21, I’ve done touring car racing before but not front wheel drive.

It’s still just as technical as it used to be and it’s eating tyres but I’m enjoying being back racing.
