It's was stock motor + esc with uprated cooling and a 28t pinion which with good batteries gave 93mph on "road" (concrete) and 80mph on flat very short grass.... Even then it's not flat enough and it was getting air....
The ESC did eventually let the genie out..... It would take speed runs but i couldn't resist the temptation to knock it into a drift at 90+ feathering the throttle killed it!
Standard motor will take 8s with care so that's the plan currently......
Faster you go the more expensive it gets..
I'm quite hard on mine and if I'm honest I get my thrills from seeing how close to a crash I can get.... Usually sideways at speed!
Next step is a TP motor which should give me 100ish and be able to drift without crapping itself!
Before you get one make sure you have somewhere you can use it.....they need some room and also check you can afford to keep putting tyres on it...
My spot is very good, large with a couple of high speed jumps but it's concrete and it is possible to do £40 in tyres across 3 runs if your drifting at speed.......it is the bomb though!!

Indeed, that's why I've held off on the Infraction / Felony. For me, they'd be car park / industrial estate bashers.
There are some stretches of wide and flat tarmac around but nothing that I'd consider ideal / safe enough to do a proper ton-up speed run.

ETA: Yeah, feathering the throttle will cook ESCs and motors because of the in-rush currents being so high.

Recently I bought myself a Gmade GOM Rock Buggy after wanting one for ages. This came as a kit but assembling it is all part of the fun and certainly helps you to much better understand all the details of the product. This is my progress so far. I still need to do a few modifications and fit some decals.

Literally just this minute finished up building the 4 wheel steer mod. I need to hook up the NB4 tx / rx and then it'll be done.
Need to sort out some other method of mounting the body too, as the clipless system uses the wheel arch liners, which have been removed. Probably go for one of those magnetic jobbies.

Stumbled across this thread again.
Losi 8 lurking up there , last used 4 years ago, unlike most moth ball hobbies it was put away in perfect working order, new fuel and tx pack charged and it will run .
You may have spotted the vibe 50 , last flown over 4 years ago, all still good.
My other electric helis, last flown over 5 years ago
I will confess to charging the batteries up last year and hovering them off in the garden just to recycle the batteries and make sure they were all good and balanced, to my amazement they all charged to within tolerance .
The Rc heli bug bit me hard 15 years ago both financially and time wise
, i actually became fairly good at flying the things in all directions and orientations .
The strange thing is not only did I loose the bug of the hobby I lost the nerve to fly the things, probably due to failing eye sight and after seeing one 500 goblin disappear into the distance with no way to judge its orientation its probably no surprise.
I might dig the losi out after reading this thread, get some fuel and give it a blast up the garden

Little video of the 4WS set up. Controlled using a Noble NB4, which has a built-in steering mix function which gives you switchable 2WS Front, 2WS Rear, Crab, 4WS.

Next thing will be replacing the stock Traxxas steering servo and the Hobao I threw in just to get this working. Got some 9imod 35kg on the way. After that, I think some 2.2 beadlocks and maybe longer shocks.
The Bronco body is also really nice so not sure I want to use that for general use. Got some inspiration from a guy on a Facebook group, and thought this looked the bks:

The model itself (the yellow Bronco I posted above) is about "average" for a hobby-grade RC, I think I paid £499 for it. It comes with everything you need to get started except a battery and charger. Factor in anywhere from £60-100 upwards for that depending on spec and quantity. There are also deals / bundles that include chargers / batteries.
The picture above from Facebook is, I think, a TRX4 Sport, which is a bit cheaper but the guy has put in some modding work to get it looking like that (and I think it looks utterly fantastic so am basically going to crib his idea). And it's the modding that can start to add up really quickly. E.g. the parts to build the 4 wheel steering, new servos, metal skids, new bodyshells etc. Like modding real cars, you never see that money again!
It's a fun hobby though and you don't really need to spend much to get going. There are tonnes of models available to fit pretty much any budget. Just make sure that whatever model you pick has good parts availability, because you will break something at some point and you don't want that to be the end of your fun or be waiting months for bits to turn up.

I'm just in the final stages of my re-release Kyosho Optima. After only ever building Tamiya what an absolute pleasure this is to build. The quality is a another level it's going to be hard to go back. The price seems high at first, but I would say the bump up in parts and materials actually makes it better value than a lot.of cheaper stuff I'm not expecting it to be super fast as it weighs a ton and I haven't gone brushless or lipo.

Those Kyoshos are great, and prepare to be surprised by the performance. I have an original Turbo Optima which is great, and have since built the re-re Javelin. Just the body to paint.

The cooler temperatures have no doubt helped achieve this and even then you could cook an egg on the motor (standard motor)

My original Tamiya Pajero but recently refurbished.
My lads sand scorcher we built last Christmas
And my Mk1 leon body on Tamiya TT02 chassis.
Got half way round Le Mans with it on track walk earlier this year.
We have a couple of rock crawlers too, only cheaper range FTX outbacks but they are surprisingly good off road. Bit obsessed with painting different bodies for them.
This is my favourite. Lol
