Hi All,

I'm fancying building a big scalextric in my loft and being a big kid again.

Where is best to buy a boxed set?

I'm assuming digital is the way ahead?

What is better.

Sport or Digital?

Refer to it as Analogue or Digital otherwise you will confuse yourself.

Which one is better? Its down to budget as a Digital set can do anything an analogue set can do and more... i.e just dont use the lane changers.

As above.

If on a budget go 2 car racing. If £40 is as much as £30 might as well be go digital. With the 6 car Base you have many options and have the benefit of being able to race 6 cars on 2 lanes which rocks smile

I went for a 6 base digital, as you have the analogue option and the ability to run computer controlled cars... go the big digital set for £350 from Hawkins Bazzar - http://www.hawkin.com/scalextric-c1330-digital-pla...

But I am sure Jadlam can do you something similar too as a friend of PH.

Honestly I would pm Russ to see if he can match that (he might find it hard as I had to buy mine from Modelzone as they were selling for less than he could buy in for).

It was the set i bought to get myself back in the groove after having had a good few years off when they changed form Classic track to Sport.

Also once you have started again keep your eye out for bargains.

Had a little play this weekend when a friend dropped by for the night. Took about 2 hours to unpack and build then another hour changing it about to make easier to get access to far corners!

Impressed with S4 Lancias which run well with the Audis.

Hawkins do a fair amount of Scalextric to be fair. The 6 Car set is a good deal, we had the same deal and bought several hundred sets but decided not to sell them as whole sets - we split them down and use the parts for our own layouts. But Im not gonna lie its a good deal, but only if you want and need 6 Cars & 6 Throttles etc. If you only need 2 cars and 2 throttles - you can buy a lot of track with the value of 4 cars and 4 throttles.

The OP just needs to give me some idea of what space he has and what budget he has - I can then make a proper recommendation.

Hi Russ,

Floor space I have a massive loft which is fully floored etc.

What is it you do Russ?

I'm not looking to spend alot just incase I get bored of it if that makes sense.

Would £150 get me something decent?

Just to update this.

I noticed 2 sets of Scalextric Sport on Gumtree locally.

Focus RS kit and a TVR Kit.

Managed to make a good sized track but need to get some good cars.

Why are you (/is this person) recommending to not use lane changers?
Do they not work well? Is it an annoying functionality during racing? Or something else?

I think what he is saying is that if you have a digital set but want it to emulate an analogue set, just don't use the lane changers.
