Don’t think there has been anything on Cobi here. Unlike some far east ‘Lego’ products no potential copyright issues as they are a Polish company, so upstanding members can rest easy.

I have always been a frustrated modeller – to cut to the chase I am rubbish but in awe of what some of the members on here and elsewhere can produce in all formats. Cobi has dealt with this itch.

About a year ago I discovered Cobi who have an entirely different range to Lego, focusing a lot on military vehicles but have recently introduced cars and have a variety of other products. http://xcatalogues.cobi.pl/katalogi/2018/blocks-02...

I have bought a few things and quality is fantastic which all the reviews you will ever find confirm. Upcoming in the autumn are models of HMS Warspite, and the German battleships Bismarck, and Tirpitz which at almost 2000 pieces will be Cobis largest models and I suspect will put a significant dent in my bank balance.

Anyone else collecting?

I've just picked a couple of the Spitfires up for my Dad for his birthday, as he's a Spitfire nut. They seem fair value for their size/quality. No idea why Lego don't do Spitfires etc... seems to me they're missing a trick.

Indeed - I assume it's to do with the "no military stuff" policy Lego has always maintained.

Though having said that, I'm not quite how the Sopwith Camel set from a few years ago slipped through the net, nor the Red Baron's Fokker Triplane before that.

I've looked longingly at the Cobi stuff for a while now but have resisted temptation. I don't have any room (or funds!) for a whole new collection to sit alongside the big Star Wars sets. That way lies bankruptcy and divorce!

Didn't appreciate that, although I can understand the thinking to an extent given most of their stuff is for kids. That said, airfix is targeted to kids too, and it hasn't harmed them smile

!
That would be my thinking aswell.
But at the same time LEGO will sell you these.

Find it a bit strange they wont sell you a little tank, but will gladly sell you a set of full size Katanas confusedlaugh
Strange.

Never heard of Cobi before.
Some of the Boeing stuff looks interesting. Cheers.

Hadn't heard of Cobi before. I really like the look of the WW2 tanks and military vehicles, they seem to have captured the shapes really well. But it's a bit too expensive for me (~£40 for a tank). The RC ones look very cool too.

Based on my experience with a couple of Kobi tanks I would say that the quality can be variable and isn't as good as Lego.
The Sherman tank, for example, had tracks that would never stay on but the Tiger tank was much better, the tracks did stay on, but still had pieces that didn't clutch very well.
The Tiger was also much higher quality and more detailed than the Sherman.

If you interested in the subjects then I would still recommend them, but just remember they are not Lego.

My son picked the Corsair when we were at RNAS Yeovilton, I was a little nervous about it but it's the closest thing to the quality of Lego I've experienced. Some clever parts I've never seen in Lego and most of the models have a really sleek smooth finish that doesn't look blocky at all.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up more if we had space.

Having stumbled on this thread I stumped up for a Cobi Tiger for the Boy. Purely because I have a Tamiya one I made years ago so he could see how cool it would end up being before he started building it. He has declared it to be 9/10ths as good as Lego. hehe But it's half the price, possibly less

There were a couple of bricks missing from his kit which are fortunately identical to Lego ones from his stash but other than that, all good. The instructions were what worried me most when I ordered, but no need... they are just as clear and concise as Lego ones and he's never got stuck or needed help. Mind, he does claim to be a Master Builder now.

In summing up; Cobi gets a massive thumbsup and he's now changed from wanting a Lego Marvel Hulkbuster for his next birthday to wanting MORE COBI TANKS! Suits me. Cheaps is good smile

I really like Cobi. Mainly because I love tanks, second world war history, Lego. Lego don't make tanks so needs must.

I've 7 tanks at the moment, that'll probably increase exponentially when I'm not a skint student.

I agree with the above, the tracks on the smaller tanks are rubbish, but it's no problem as they just sit on the fireplace. The figures are fairly hideous but the supplied helmets fit lego minifigures so I just used various storm troopers to man the hatches

I am obviously a fan already but having now finished the U-boat have to say it was the most enjoyable build so far and quite a model. Like the Polish destroyer the box art does it no justice as the image foreshortens. Took about 4 hours and lots of interesting bespoke pieces.

I have a T45 destroyer kit from Armed Forces Character Building and the pieces are all Cobi branded.

The first T45 kit I had was a present, but it built such a poor scale model that I ended up purchasing a second kit and starting again to build a much more accurate model by combining both kits. That is a problem with the Armed Forces scale design rather than the quality of the Cobi pieces.

Was at the Tank Museum at Bovington yesterday and they had a huge selection of Cobi kits in the shop. Was very tempted to buy one of the tanks, but as I was looking at a few my daughter comes up to me and tell me that Mummy would kill me if I bought one. So I didn't . Anyway I have no room and I'm saving up for the Lego Technic Bugatti Chiron.

Quality of blocks very good. Quite “old school” - there aren’t many special parts.
Instructions pretty good, if not quite perfect.

The boy is very happy

Very cool! Reminds me of the old “Machinen kreiger” model kits
