Thankyou. Yes we do too.We dont see many Irish Red Setters around nowadays. They are both crazy funny but very loving dogs to own or maybey they own us is probably more to the truth.

I almost knocked the car off the sideboard yesterday. Lucky it didnt fall. So i cleared out and rearranged the trophy cabinet, not quite finished yet but looks presentable.Im so busy at the moment i dont think i will get to it for a month to finish it completely

I hate to be pedantic and rain on your parade, but those are 1995/6 plates and not allowed on your 62 GTO.
Of course 'Show Plates' are allowed as long as you promise not to take it on the road biggrin
An excellent job, BTW. yes
Hi yes I know. It’s just a folly. I didn’t want a white or yellow plate on the car. Just letters and numbers in black and silver close to representing my name. Thank you for the positive comment though. Cheers

Hi! I had a couple of spare hours today. A comment from NDA in December made me think about the bonnet being up and showing off the engine bay. It has no way of staying open. So i decided to make my own stay from alluminium sheet bent and drilled a couple of washers to hold the stay to the bracket, a spring clip to retain the stay when the bonnet is closed and 0.78mm brass rod bent up to suit then chromed.masked off and stippled black on the underside.

.
.
.
.
I think ill do the same for the boot.
Thanks to NDA this will help showing the car off when its finished.Cheers. Not much left now, really busy in work.

Heres some with the bonnet fitted , definately makes it more interesting to view..

First things first. Great build, truly inspirational stuff.

Second I have the trumpeter GT40 mk2 and have been build8ng it off and on for a little while.

It’s not in the same league as this kit, but it’s good for the money.

Here’s a picture of the engine (just dry fit for now)

I’m going to get on it in properly in the new year.
I've received the TrumpeterGT40 kit, thought to let you know without contaminating your super painting thread tutorial on your forum. Also waiting for the super detail kit from KA models to arrive and just purchased 3 sets of Meng 1/35 scale plastic nuts and bolts really for detailing tanks but will do what i need to fulfill the missing detail on the engine and gearbox. How are you getting on with your model?. I found this website. http://gt40.rkmotorscharlotte.com/car/ . Relating to a company that rebuilt the actual car. Fab photos as a reference and nicely written up. Hope it helps you with your build. Im going to start in Autumn (might be sooner im sure). Cheers

Hi There.
Well bar the petrol flap, bonnet air scoop and front jacking points ive finished.Il be doing the tidying up and painting the couple of parts left in the summer when its hot and the paint will take nicely. a few photos.
Used the origonal front frame to make a copy 2nd attempt was successful
.
After shaping the curve around a tapered sweet bowl, perfect size, bonded the screen
.
Fiited the screen, windscreen wipers and window washers, and there we are 99.9% completed
.
.
.
A very, very big thankyou to anyone who has looked, a BIGGER thankyou to all who have looked and paid comments on this thread. In fact had helped to encourage me to push this project along, also it has personally given me a library of information to help me with future projects and i hope may help anyone out there that may want to take a project like this on, took me approx 400 hours. (tip!!! dont rush, stop if your not really in the mood). Pound for pound for the hours i put into it i think was great value for money, kept me away from channel flicking and watching repeats on telly.Allowed me to empty my mind of the day to day work ive done just over a year now. Tested my patience but feel better for it and helped to keep dexterity in my hands. Probably damaged my eyesight though ha! ha!.

1/12th GT40 next, just waiting for the photo etch detail kit and descent seats, ive looked at the engine and gearbox which has a awfull lot of detail missing which im going to put back in, namely distributor and leads, nuts and bolts. The rest of the kit is very well done but needs tweaking/extra detailing.

If i get to put the Ferrari on youtube later on in the year i will post a message if anyones interested.
Cheers all the best

A wonderful thread, and I am in awe of the talent and hard work it took to do this. I have been luck enough to get very close to a number of full size 250GTOs, and this is a brilliant evocation.
Thankyou for the brilliant comment and for the quality photos you sent in, did actually help me to detail my car.Id have to go to Goodwood to get close to one, but im enjoying looking at the almost finished car. Im glad ive done this thread though, shows whats inside.Cheers

Great stuff looking forward to the GT40 build. Hopefully it will inspire me to make progress with mine..
Thanks Rob.
Ive been spoilt building the GT40 for its detail.
I cant get over the poor detailing of the engine/gearbox on the GT40, so ive relented and started it, removing all the nodules that should be nuts and bolts, replaced them with Meng ones and added a few where they are missing.
Scribed the seperation lines for the cylinder head to crankcase, and adding detail to the manifold before i even start. Ive also dropped the chrome parts for this engine in neat bleach to get rid of (only takes a minute) then washed off with warm water. In actual fact most of the chrome is going to be removed.
Robbed the rubber drive shaft gaters from a 1/12th protar Ferrari that got smashed some years ago (new it would come in handy one day). Found some rubber gaters from a couple of 12mm stroke length guages that were in my Works scrap bin, will do nicely for the steering rack.
Hoping to start a new thread soon. Cheers

I wonder if you have this same fastidious attention to detail to other things in your life?
Id like to think i do. I think my work ethic has something to do with it because if i dont do the jobs right, would cost me big time.
I pay a lot of the same attention to my weekend mistress F1 SL55 AMG on weekends too.

Here she is, she can be nasty if i dont treat her right. glad my wifes nicer.
.

My wifes comments have been encouraging but with a quiet warning not to over clutter the house.

Thankyou really appreciated. Thought of taking model building back up again?, i starved myself from building models for quite some years. I didnt realise until recently how much i missed the smell of glue biglaugh. It could be the reason why i kept going. laughlaugh. Cheers

I’m not going to be doing any of that myself. I think your attention to detail is astonishing and will no doubt put my effort to shame.
I’ve been looking at your work on the ww2 models. So there would never be putting anyone to shame there. Fabulous work at the scale your working on. I couldn’t do it.I do believe that the gt40 itself stands up as a good model to build as standard as you are doing. There’s plenty of detail on its own. The Model factory Hiro models are so detailed, Tamiya and some Protar kits only come close to them for detail and quality. I understand now why the kits they make are higher in cost in comparison. Personally I need to get this kit up to or at least near to looking comparable in quality if they sit next to each other. Just my choice or should I say have been forced by my own previous actions to do this project justice. Cheers

A great job with the 250GTO - and I'm looking forward to feeling equally envious of your skills, patience and eyesight with the GT40 (I have one in my 'sable' smile.)

Are you getting the full detail kit from KA or just their less comprehensive version?
Hi there again, good to hear from you. I had to buy the GT40 on a e-selling website. Your prone to double your investment now on a unstarted kit as it’s no longer available. I bought the spare wheel from another e- seller in Belgium and the full detail KA kit with seats from Australia which should “fingers crossed” arrive any time now. My investment in this so far is approx 1/3 of what I paid for the Ferrari and spare engine. So far I’ve stripped all the nodules off the engine and gearbox parts which are supposed to represent nuts and bolts and added Meng ones.Removing loads of chrome from the kit. Im trying my best to make the toylike engine parts look more realistic, like scribing gasket lines for the cylinder heads. I think I’ve got quite a bit of putty work to do on the engine before I get into the rest of the kit which actually looks good qualitywise.
I think I’m going to need to spend quite a lot of time doing research and corrections.
Cheers
