[ Necrobump! ]

It looks like the ex-Wingnut Wings model (now Border Model) 1:32 Lancaster is starting to arrive in peoples' hands. This chap has a 1h 40m box opening and inspection of the build guide and sprues.

Unboxing (it seems that the box is actually too small): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWVS84C2NMk

Looks like it’s about £620 in the UK, which sounds right. I hope they release the nose section only at some point.

£600 less 10% with a code - but I can’t remember where I saw it.
So £540 ……. but sold out.

Damn it if Hannants didn't have a limited number of unreleased kits online this morning, and I've only gone and ordered one!

I may not have the courage to start it!

As someone said above, the box is too small;
once you get the sprues out it’s very hard to get them back in.

The clear parts ( which are very delicate ) are at the top;
you should check them for faults.

Take the clear parts out, put the lid back on and then turn the box upside down
and remove the bottom of the box;
the decals and the instructions which were at the bottom of the box,
can now be removed to study.

The ‘tower’ of sprues should remain in place within the lid and the bottom of the box can be carefully put back over them until you want to start the build.

If you think that the above procedure is complex, just wait until you start the build !
I’m completely daunted by the prospect 🥴.

In this box the clear parts are in a separate box wrapped in foam and are fine so I guess they learnt from the earlier boxes. I've been watching the build videos linked in the post above, there's hours to go through before I even think about starting it!

That’s good. I took a chance and pre-ordered mine directly from China when they were first announced for sale, and paid in full upfront (risky), but It was relatively inexpensive at about £350 plus $25 USD slow-boat from China shipping.

I heard nothing more from them for about 8 months, but one day there was a knock on the door and on the doorstep a courier had left an unwrapped outer carton below.

Luckily my clear parts were fine despite not being in a separate box, they were wrapped in foam but would have been vulnerable to any pressure on the top of the carton.

Nice one, I'm going through Nigels videos checking the instructions and making notes and corrections to my instructions.

I've also already got the Haynes manual and got the reference book for late lancasters on order.

I'm will do my best to make mine as a 12 squadron late 1944 one as a good friend of mines great uncle was a mid upper gunner in one.

Parson my ignorance on this as my aircraft model knowledge is about 40 years out of date (I had the Tamiya 1/48 Lanc) - is the Border Models and Wingnut version two separate products?

Wing nut wings developed and as far as im aware made the moulds before they went bust, border models brought the moulds and put the kit into production. Border models printed the instructions and there's some errors and omissions in them as wing nut wings didn't get that far so border probably didn't have all the information they needed.

Ah OK thank you. So there is actually only one 1/32 Lanc model available?

What reference book is that?

Years ago the RAF Museum published ‘The Lancaster Manual’ which would probably be useful too.
