Hong Kong models do one for a lot less money but apparently it has issues with accuracy, I went for the border models one as wing nut wings had a very good reputation for both accuracy and quality of moulds

I do belive there was a 1/24th scale vac form model made in a handful a few years ago but that's probably slightly large!

Ahh yes I am aware of that series of books.

Ah OK thanks for that - so there are two (I seem to remember seeing something on YouTube).

I will be painting something a bit smaller over the weekend - a Spitfire!

From what people have told me the border models kit is basically a pre production wing nuts one. So there are lots of areas to be careful of in assembly.

I built a border 1/35 Stuka. The surface detail was second to none. The instructions were the absolute worst I have seen on a modern kit. So many errors, the painting call outs were non existent to the point I had to buy the Haynes manual (no help at all) and then guess. Some parts (the bomb assembly) just weren’t in the instructions at all.

I’ll not be buying another border kit anytime soon.

The Lancaster is wing nut though, so hopefully will be better.

Watching nigels videos on the border models lancaster and instructions and looking at mine, yes the mouldings are simply the best I've ever seen and the instructions while not the worst are bad!

I'm going to spend some time checking and correcting the instructions and working out interior colours. One thing in my favor is the mid upper gunner of the lancaster I want to represent is still with us so I can always ask him!

I’ve got the nose version and while the majority of the parts are very well done with fine detail the clear parts are terrible. Very distorted and with lots of hazing.
The retailer I bought it from said they had had lots of complaints and Border models are basically washing their hands of it..
I emailed Border models directly and got no reply.

Pretty disappointed to be honest!

They do the nose only version?? That’s the one I wanted, but hadn’t seen the Border Models release.

They do. Wasn’t cheap at about £100 but I have nowhere to keep the full lanc when built.
I’ve also got the HK models nose, (unbuilt) and that doesn’t look anywhere nearly as detailed as the Border one. But the clear parts are perfect.

The box for the Border kit is twice the size of the HK kit!

The clear parts could definitely be a better, I will give them a polish and dip them in some future. They are much better than some of the first run ones I've seen.

Edited to add a picture of the canopy

To be honest on closer inspection there pretty good!

Talking of Future/Klear…I’m nearly out, where do you get it? I bought two bottles off EBay many years ago, but now it’s getting a bit sketchy. I wonder if the stuff advertised on EBay is all legit these days?

I actually ended up getting some of the new formula after reading online it's basically the same, OK I've only tested it on a small spare canopy I had but it seems fine.

Rest assured I will try it on one of the unused choices on the lancaster first to be absolutely sure! Although I've got a fokker Dr1 to finish first and I'm notoriously slow at building models. The lanc may still being built come the next coronation!

Holloway House Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Finish is what is required now I'm told, although I've not yet bought one to try, as my bottle of Klear is still 1/3 full - which at the rate I use it will last a few more years!

I started just polishing canopies.

Seems to work better than I ever managed to get with klear.

Still have half a bottle of the stuff somewhere though.
