Amazing results, you are working at the speed of light. Are you drying the glue and paint with a hair dryer or so? One remark: I would prefer to have the Hurricane canopy a bit more horizontally aligned with the rails.

Thanks.

The canopy does look a bit off. Must have popped up a bit. I might revisit it.

That escalated quickly...

I managed to break the canopy removing it. I have used a massive blob of canopy glue (still drying) to fix the two halves to the fuselage as best I can. It isn’t perfect, but it’s as good as It’s going to get.
I also spent a bit of time touching up little bits a pieces and adding a few stains, chips and a little more weathering.
It’s now on the shelf and free from further tinkering.

Looks fine now. I did notice the wonky canopy in the original pics but decided to say nothing smile

Do Airfix provide a separate closed canopy? You could always replace the bodged one with the alternative.

Falcon do a set of 1/72 vacform RAF fighter canopies if you wanted a complete replacement - although that wouldn't be in the spirit of the "Out of the Box" nature of the project.

The kit only comes with a closed canopy. I thought I’d botched it in place and subsequently didn’t notice the wonkiness.
I think a vac form canopy that cost more than the kit is a little out of the spirit of the build.

Also. I don’t like vac form canopies.

The Falcon sets are quite good value as you get at least ten different aircraft canopies in each set. I'm always very nervous using them and I've ruined a few - but they work well if you are VERY careful.

This arrived last week:

Same vendor as the incomplete Boeing P-12. He offered a full refund on the Boeing without me returning it. Did a deal where I still paid for it, and he sent me the Seafox he had for sale for a discount. Result! Been after one for a while.

It’s all there, and the plastic is just as odd as I remember it when I last built one in about 1983...

When did Matchbox stop using the funky coloured plastic?

My Frog Kittyhawk is progressing nicely, I'm now about four hours elapsed. I'll post some pics later on. The kit dates – I think – from 1958, and I've realised how crude it is. No wheel-wells in the lower wing for example, and although I thought about opening them out that seemed a step too far, although probably achievable in the time available.

Looking ahead, can anyone recommend a sheet of 1/72 RAF roundel decals? I'll use the rest of the kit decals (assuming the don't disintegrate) but the out-of-register roundels really irk me. Such a sheet must surely exist, but I find the Hannants website a PITA to use.

Edit to add that frogmodelaircraft.co.uk is an interesting little website, if you're looking to track down an old Frog kit.

The Seafox is a 2 colour kit - silver and green. The plastic doesn’t seem as good quality of their earlier kits though.

If you do a search for “Xtradecal RAF roundels” plenty will come up on EBay. They are usually excellent quality.

Any help?

The old Modeldecal roundel sheets were good too if you can find them. I still make use of mine from time to time.

What size do you need. I always keep my old decals. I'm sure I will have something the right diameter.

No worries. I did find some cartograph ones from an Eduard kit. They were 1/48 though.
I have got some Airfix 1/72.

Disaster struck! I used old Humbrol and Revell tins and the green did look suspicious already. Especially the green oily paint had thickened way too much and I should have either thoroughly thinned it first or simply buy a new tin. It looks extremely grainy now. Maybe I can disguise the irregulaties with plenty of gloss varnish. Under normal circumstances I would have simply removed all the paint and tried again with an airbrush, but 48 hours is 48 hours.

Trivial info: all 36 aircrafts as ordered by the Dutch government left the Fokker factory in 1939 completely covered in this undefined brown-reddish base paint, with sand and green camo added by the Royal Airforce upon receipt of the planes. Virtually all planes were destroyed during the May 1940 hostilities and no period color photo evidence exists to validate the correct colors. If you think debates on modellers forums on correct Spitfire colors are sometimes a bit overheated try discussing D21 colors!

For the guns I sacrified a needle from my wifes sewing kit, which I blued and blackened with a lighter. Excess paint on the guns to be removed yet.

I've cocked-up slightly. As you all know the P40 undercarriage retracts into cylindrical fairings. On this kit these are represented by crude blobs which fit into equally crude recesses in the lower wing. I assembled my wings entirely before fitting to the fuselage. Joys of joys discovered last nigh that one fairing is about 1mm ahead of the other. So a bit of filler and filing required tonight. rolleyes

That sounds like it might take longer than 48 hours...
I suggest we turn a blind eye to such flagrant ignorance of the rules... providing you post some pictures.
