Nice - we go to Stackpole (near Pembroke) every year. In case you don’t know the area there are a few small but interesting military museums fairly close:

Chapel Bay Fort - about 45 mins away - Restored fort, run by an ex-soldier who lives there with his family. Encyclopaedic knowledge of all things military. Worth a tour if you’re into that king of thing. ETA - Seems to be closed due to COVID at present.

Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre - about 30 minutes. Quite a few models there, and contains some parts of a Sunderland flying boat they’re recovering from the river.

Carew Control Tower - about 30 minutes - loads of WW2 memorabilia and a restored tower you’ve got pretty much free access too. Also restoring an Avro Anson. Great bunch of enthusiasts. Only open Wednesdays and Thursdays I think.

If you’re interested - make sure you double-check opening times/restrictions. We were down there in June, and there were restrictions in place.

Cheers.
Thanks for the info. I think my time table is going to be set by Mrs McDonald and my daughters. More buckets and spades and less museums….
Mind you it’s been raining pretty much all day today, so you never know…

Shame about Chapel Bay Fort being closed - it’s easy walking distance from West Angle Bay, which has a very decent beach. Quite a few military vehicles there too (at the fort). Where we stay is close to Castlemartin firing range. Nothing nicer than to sit on a spectacular beach with the sound of machine gun fire and tank rounds in the background.

ETA these aren’t big museums 2 hours would be plenty to get the gist.

So here is a US Tank crew I’ve just finished for a Sherman Easy Eight I’m building.

A bit of a resurrection for this thread.

One of my goals for this year was to advance my figure painting skills.

Here’s a German infantry man I am working on for a club competition.

Is dr_gn mentioned before it really is a different discipline from other modelling.

I’m pretty pleased with how it’s going, but still have a long, long way to go.

If anyone is interested it’s a 1/35 figure from miniart.

I’m pretty sure you’d be depressed if you just sat on an enormous cocktail stick….

Unless that’s a personal preference..

Figures is a completely new area for me as well. I am trying, using some of your techniques and advises but it is very difficult. Improvement through repetition and learning by doing is probably the answer.

This is an F16 pilot in 1:48 straight out of the 1976 release Monogram box, without any further scratched or added stuff:

That’s a really nice job for an older figure. I shoehorned in a figure to a gee bee that I’m currently building. Not sure it was worth it..

Really excellent Rob. Clear to see you're drawing from your 2d painting expertise, that last shot could also be a flat painting. Light and shadow heavily developed on the surface rather than expecting ambient light to provide it.

Still in your debt for the painting of Blondie!

Thanks bud. You don’t owe me anything though.

Are you coming to shuttleworth in a couple of weeks?

I started the base yesterday.

I need to bring the two elements together a bit and then move on to another project.

After a bit of frustration with an Avro Anson I’m building I thought I’d do a quick figure to calm myself down.
Not quite finished yet, but I’m pretty pleased with it.
