Airfix RAF Refuelling Set (1:76/2)

So this was supposed to be a "48 Hour, OOB" build, but turned out to be several months and not OOB. I love these old Airfix RAF sets, and have got the others to build at some point:

I decided to stick with the Airfix colour scheme, which I think may be post-war for one or both.






















The Bedford QL had the following mods:

Glazing (0.1mm acetate & Krystal Clear PVA)
Hoses & boom handling lines (lead wire/paper tube/heat shrink)
Nozzles (scrap p/e & brass tube)
Mirrors (Punched platicard & brass wire)
Steering Wheel (spares box)
Instruments (spare decals)
Contents gauge (spare decals & scrap p/e)
Drilled out exhaust
Nozzle retainers (scrap p/e)
Lamps (Little Lenses)
Starting Handle (brass tube)
Drilled out boom pivots
Windscreen wipers (scrap p/e & brass tube)
Spare wheel (spares box)
Fuel tank lid (spare p/e)
Grab handles (brass wire)

The AEC Matador had the following mods:

OT with first post, I'm afraid, but what's the Spitfire model? Looks impressively detailed for 1:72 scale?

No probs! It's the Tamiya 1:72 kit, with an Aires resin/photo-etch engine and gun bay detail set (plus some scratch building). There's a build thread for it here if you're interested:

The AEC matador was a very well engineered vehicle-my father drove gun tractor versions in the royal artillery in the late fifties /early sixties

Thanks! Airfix do a 4x4 version (towing a 5.5" gun IIRC). I do like AEC Matadors, especially the 6x6 tanker version; it looks 'right'.

These are ace, makes me want to find my old copy of the little hardback book Airfix Magazine Guide 'Modelling RAF Vehicles' that I had as a kid and start building.

I'd completely forgotten about that book:



SAM publications do a similar one for general military vehicles.



I might get them, I've still got the other RAF sets to build.
