It will look fine. The Tamiya kit pretty much falls together, and it’s a simple enough paint scheme. There’s an option for an overall black NF version too.

The Old Airfix Kit is arguably more accurate dimensionally (rudder is too tall on the Tamiya) but lacks interior detail
big advantage is it can be had for peanuts

The Airfix version is ancient - looks about as refined as a potato compared with the Tamiya kit (IMHO).

Hasegawa Have a 1:72 Mosquito on the way too: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/HACP017

Judging by the box art Hannants are using, I guess it will be a re-issue, maybe with updates. This is Hasegawa's previous Mossie line-up:

Agreed, but what the OP wants, the old Airfix kit still looks good with a little work

Quick look at sold items on Ebay shows you can get the Tamiya one for £11 with a bit of digging, or £16 buy-it-now including postage from Jadlam Models. Depends if the objective of the exercise is to prove some kind of point, but for me, the price difference (if any) easily beats trying to turn an inferior kit into the benchmark kit. If nostalgia is your thing, and you want a really simple Mosquito shaped model, the Matchbox version at about £10 would be the one for me.

Didn't realise that the Tamiya kit was available so cheaply, in that case it's the best choice, Th Matchbox Mossie is only just better than Airfix's original 1957 Mossie release....

The CURRENT Airfix kit. I'm hanging around rumourmonger on britmodeller hoping for some good news in January smile

P.s. I've got a soft spot for the current Airfix kit, lots of options, accurate and a very enjoyable build....

The CURRENT 1/72 Airfix kit IS ancient. It dates from 19721/73. So far Airfix has not issued a new tool 1/72 Mosquito - and at the moment there is no sign that they intend to. Having said all that, I actually like the Airfix 1/72 kit. I've made it a couple of times over the years and it is reasonably accurate in outline. The cockpit is spartan and the undercarriage is fiddly.

There was an even older Airfix 1/72 Mosquito which dated from the very early 1960s. This was the one that was superseded in 1972 by what was then a "New Tool".

Here's my Airfix one from a few years ago (actually, ten years ago when I see the date on the picture) -

Given the choice these days, I'd go with the Tamiya kit.

If you are feeling adventurous, Airfix do a new tool 1/24 Mosquito.

I can’t think of any new-tool Airfix kit that’s been better quality to a similar existing Tamiya version. Price new used to be in Airfix favour, but if you consider EBay there’s no contest there either these days.

A new-tool Tamiya kit on the other hand...the engineering of the parts and quality of moulding is just breathtaking.

Tamiya kit prices seem very reasonable to me these days - when compared to others. Hasegawa on the other hand......

On the subject of Hasegawa, they also do a 1/72 Mosquito which by all accounts is quite nice. However, being Hasegawa it will be pricey if buying new. And it has a few suspect shape issues.

I bought this book a while ago and it does give a good run down of Mosquito kit building. It came out before the Airfix 1/24 kit so that is not featured.

On Ebay, the Hasegawa Mosquito kit is the same cost, give or take, as the Tamiya or Airfix versions.

I'm sure you can find Hasegawa kits at reasonable prices if you look around. I do.

But the basic retail prices in the UK have been fairly high for a number of years - although it is true that others are now catching up.
