About 20 years old, found my unfinished Tamiya Lotus MkIII covered in dust. Also a unstarted Protar Ferrari 126c2
Lost in time but glad to see it again. One of the best model kits Tamiya produced, the Brabham BT44 was also a very nice model to build, built but lost somewhere.
Just thinking about finishing it off, cleaning it up, removing all rubber tubes and replacing with braided, removing all decals and replacing with new etc.

I built the bt44 twice, one back in the 70s which is long gone and then again in 2005. I keep thinking about enhancing it with seatbelts etc so will be interesting to see what you do with the Lotus.

The 1st thing to do was to clean the dust off with a anti static brush then spent a couple of hours using Mcguires scratch X and a cotton bud to get the paint as best it could be and finally polished with some car nano wax polish and a small piece of microfibre cloth, came up a treat. The paint is still showing its age 20 years but acceptable, otherwise it would need to be taken back to its component parts and start again.
Removed most of the old black plastic tubing used for oil lines and replaced with braided elastic. Some decal repair work to do, finish off the seat belt shoulder straps.

Strangely enough I've got what I think is that same model in a similar stage of build. It's been in it's box since the mid-80s I think!

Are you going to complete it. This is one of the best looking cars to display. Mine has faults going back a few years, im just going to finish it off to display it.
Would be building this with a bit more care and attention if i wanted to build one again.

Finished this model , although loads of issues on my ability going back over 20 years ago annoyed me somewhat, must have had more important things to do back then like booze, girls and cars not neccesarily in that order, think its good enough to view in a cabinet though. The decals were very fragile but got them on bar 1 for the rear wing using hotter water than usual and micro set. Made up some seatbelts and added the Willans decals, fitted some extra dzuz fasteners. The wheels, engine cover, front wing, dash canopy, side radiator tubs and rear wing are removable showing the hidden details which is nice. Im going to take my time on the Ferrari 126C2 if and when i get the dredded build fever.
Anyway heres some photos.Cheers.

Looks great. I'd be interested to see the seatbelts as that's one of the things that's missing on my bt44. I believe they reissued some of these kits a few years back with photo etched bits which included belts.

Mine were a six point harnes i had to make up from leftover Photo etch and made my own Willans decals
