I had a Tamiya Ford Ranger, that my dad built for me and looked exactly like it did on the box

I then moved onto a Kysho Assault.

Both long since sadly gone, I currently have a HPI Baja SS sat on the bench in the garage that has had far too much money chucked at it, O’Neils brother engine etc, for just screaming round the fields 😂

Started with the Countach LP500S CS back in the late 70's, closely followed by the Sand Scorcher; both with Acoms RC.
Purchased the Mini, Alfa and Impreza in 2007, which have been sat there ever since.

I am eyeing up the new Mk 2 Escort though as a bit of a revival.
Great kits which bring back some happy memories.

Bought this not so little fella for not very much money on eBay. Original 1990s Bullhead (Clod Buster chassis). Joined my old Pumpkin, and the Thunder Dragon I have from my childhood that I think is too far gone to restore, sadly.

Did a refurb - needed not very much at all, just some painting - I do need one of the rear fuel tanks though and a new smokestack. Went non-original, as the shell has a crack so didn;t feel the need to preserve it. It could use an electronic speed controller, but that is pretty much it. Will probably upgrade the radio gear as the 8 cell controller with huge aerial is a bit much, frankly!

Nice detail on the cockpit, do you recall the offset in the escort wheels ? want something that looks deep for the mk2 but don't want them to stick out too far.
https://www.jcracingproducts.co.uk/rally-wheel-series/rally-wheels/minilite
I used the 5mm offset ones but they don't have much dish and, I think, look too big. If I did another Escort id try these:
https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/3943
Not seen them in the flesh but on paper they look like they'll work.
As far as the wheel sticking out too far you can get the drive hexes in different widths and on a 10th car even a mm can make a difference to how it looks.

First one was Xmas 85 and carried on from there for a few years:
- Hornet
- Fox
- Supershot
- Porsche 959 (never lift off throttle when turning)
- Thundershot

Then moved over to a CAT XLS. My rudimentary understand of suspension designs and car set-up is entirely down to those teen RC years.

OP - was Otley where you worked. I loved their adverts in RRC as they seemed to have so many brands. None of the shops near where I grew up had anything close to that!

I used to work at Carters Sports and Toys, Bradford in the early 80's.
First as a Saturday boy, then a year full time '85-'86 before going to Poly.
Built Tamiya RC cars for customers also.

Pretty sure I remember we used to send customers to Otley Modelsport when we didn't have specific stock.

No, I found the advert on another forum. I worked in a shop called Marionville Models in Edinburgh; I had more to do with planes than cars, although the extra cash from building cars helped sustain what was an expensive hobby!

Having pre-ordered the recently announced Egress, it looks like June before it will be available in the UK. In the meantime I am tempted by the Kyosho Turbo Optima....

Have you got a link for pre-ordering the Egress? I have a mate who would be very interested in getting a new one of those.

Unfortunately the link has disappeared from the shop I used so they must have sold out; I've had a look at some other sites and they have stopped taking pre-orders so it must have been popular.

This arrived this morning, it’s a bit battered and I have no chassis for it yet. Tried it on my Impreza chassis and the rear body post holes are in the wrong place but I’m sure I can make it fit a TT01.

Just an idea, but can't you get different body posts with bends in different places so you'd be able to get some to mate up....without the need to cut more holes in the body?

Luckily the holes in the shell are further towards the rear of the chassis than normal so I should be able to space the rear posts backwards, thanks for the suggestion if the spacing doesn’t work I will have a look for some of those posts. It needs a rear wing does anyone have any suggestions for one ?

Found this https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=...

so wing was original polycarbonate. I see references to the body being made by carson but can't find any further info.

I remember Parma doing a Laguna BTCC bodyshell back in the late 90's, along with the Mondeo, Accord and Pug 406. I wonder if Carson rebagged Parma shells?

If that's the original Tamiya Laguna shell maybe search on eBay for the plastic parts sprue? Or from a similar model like the BMW 318 or Mondeo BTCC?

Thanks for the pointers I will have a look, it was listed on eBay as a Carson shell, I’ve never seen one forsale before so I’m slightly clueless laugh

I have an old TB01 Tommi Makinen Mitsubishi Lancer which is really needing a total rebuild . The shell is chipped and split , the wheels are rough and the electrics are old.
