I just finished restoring a 58062 Hotshot II using a lot of NOS parts. Really pleased with this.

Including original vintage Acoms!

Santa was kind seeing as I can't get the 1:1 just yet.

Nothing spectacular chassis wise being the basic TT02 - Anyone have any "essential" upgrades for them?

A ball bearing set and oil shocks (Tamiya #54753) are both worth doing, then they’re fun to drive! After that the upgrades on TT-02 are almost limitless, this is a good read:

Lovely.

Action photo of mine from c.1987

(looks like I'd already smashed the front bumper off by then...!)

The Wild One Blockhead edition, is it any different to build than the regular one?

Only the preprinted body and the extra number boards and window nets apparently. But the standard Wild One is great so it should be fun.

Ok, thanks. It looks like an interesting build, and given the price difference and lack of availability of the Block Head edition the standard one could be just as interesting

Trying to remember all the Tamiya RC cars I have had over the years.

Subaru Brat
Toyota Hilux
Supershot
Frog
Wild Willy (original)
Willy's Wheeler
Audi A4 BTCC
Subaru Impreza WRC
Mercedes SLK
Volkswagen Beetle

Have built lots of them as the local Beaties used to pay me to build them for customers who weren't able to, had various others from Hirobo, Kyosho, Schumacher, etc when racing them ax the Tamiyas weren't competitive at the time.

I'm craving a Tamiya at the moment, thinking of a Clodbuster. I used to have a TXT-1 and stupidly sold it, now they're crazy money. I just want something massive and over the top I think hehe

I didn't realise the price of vintage Tamiyas so didn't think anything of giving away my original Sand Scorcher to my mate who is mad on all things Volkswagen. I gave him all the accumulated spares I had including a brand new spare bodyshell with decals etc..
To his credit he still has it all and has painted up the bodyshell very nicely. It was only a couple of years later that I found what I'd given him was worth!

My sons Lunchbox that he got for Christmas.
His first RC car, and I know being a Lunchbox the handling is pretty crazy but it's still proving to be a lot of fun.

It's brought back many happy memories of the Blackfoot and King Cab I had in the late 80s.

Thanks and yes Candy Apple Green. He chose that particular green which has a lovely sheen to it when applied in addition to the colour itself. The custom decals (thanks to another PH member who pointed me towards them) were from

Lot of investment there must be over£2k

Considering I raced various cars over the years I think it was quite a bit more than £2k. I also have a Mardave Mini-stock, some Kyosho glow engine thing that was modified with a 2 speed auto gearbox - the gearchange was a bit like impulse power to warp speed, big car park needed.

I also remember a Super Champ, Lancia 037, still have several boxes of bits and pieces in the loft.

Reminds me of the Boomerang - I know the Hotshot(1) has very different rear suspension so guess the Hotshot 2 is based on the Boomerang or is it the other way around?

Nerd Mode activated:

1st: Hotshot - monoshock front and rear suspension and a two-piece plastic monocoque chassis
2nd: Supershot - same chassis as above but with twin shocks front and rear
3rd: Boomerang - open top single piece "bathtub" chassis, twin shocks at the rear, monoshock at the front
4th: Bigwig - another new, bigger, chassis with twin shocks front and rear, celebrating 10 years of Tamiya in R/C
5th: Hotshot 2 (as my restored example) - same chassis as the Hotshot, twin shocks at the rear, front monoshock
6th: Super Sabre - Boomerang chassis, Hotshot 2 suspension

All used the same gearboxes, all except the Bigwig used the same front suspension arms and variations on a theme at the rear depending on shock position.

After this the next generation of 4WD hobby buggy appeared as the Thundershot.

Sorry about that nerd
