I guess in GB you could even try the "road legal" kit ?
Yes it has been posted before. But still cool!

I don't want to be that guy, but surely that's 4/5ths scale, not 8/10ths? Lowest common denominators?

Sorry!

Completed the tidy up of my FF01 chassis. It was a Golf VR6 but the body was too gone so I got a new Castrol Civic.

My 7.2v NiMH packs are dead, they’ll accept a bit of a charge, but die as soon as they are in the car. Any advice for good make, or place to buy. I need Deans connectors.
Can these be recycled?
I did some Googling about trying to revive dead NiMH, but it seems most people don’t have any luck.
I had the same issue. Dug out some of my old RC cars that have sat in the loft for more than 10 years. Plugged the NiMH batteries into my modern charger and nothing. They wouldn't even start to charge. Then I found one of my old Acoms slow chargers from the 1980's. Plugged in the batteries and they all charged up and now I am using them.

The original Tamiya kits we built were 1/10. I guess that's their point smile

Where’s the best place to get upgraded suspension components? My Hornet needs it, fronts are terrible.

Any of the main places, Modelsport, Wheelspin or Make it Build it will be able it to help. I like Modelsport, they seem to have decent and responsive comms via email

You could also try tamico.de - they often have all sorts of parts available.

Half way through a re-re Hotshot build, mechanical bits just about done with the electronics and steering to install next.

This is going to be a fast/hobby runner so has deviated from standard OOB:

Dynatech 02R motor with suitable ESC
Full ball bearings of course
Avante lightweight wheels
Supershot undertray
Non-box art paint including custom decals from MCI Racing

Stayed away from the Supershot suspension set-up as I have another one with that on, and I’ve never actually run with this rather novel monoshock set-up!

I’ve got a supershot. Have you got yours to turn? Steering on mine is crap!

I seem to remember these things have pretty bad bump-steer - can you soften the front suspension or stiffen the rear? That may improve it a bit.

Finally finished my Tamiya lunchbox build this weekend, apart from body paint. It’s been sat on a shelf for over 18 months.

Sadly first few drives resulted in a slight calamity of front tie rod arm coming apart. It looks like the plastic has sheered off which is unfortunate as it wasn’t a particularly big off… have upgraded to a metal servo saver and tie rod arms to see if that’ll solve it.

Must resist urge to upgrade everything!

I had an original Lunchbox and it used to go through tie rods at a huge rate - I was fixing them after every run!

This does not bode well then…! Hopefully the upgraded parts will solve the problem

Blackfoot did the same. annoying for an off-roader to be so useless off road!

This thread brings back some memories. I started in the early 80's with a Subaru Brat. I was 6 or 7 I think and my Dad taught me to drive with a high level of accuracy. (He's a very good model aircraft pilot, although we progressed onto full sized gliders too). I used to race against some much better equipment but held my own by simply getting around the corners accurately and in one piece.

I still have the chassis of the Subaru, but part of the gear box is shot and I no longer have the shell. I do have the driver, which my dad painted in enamel paint for me - complete with 80's side burns! I keep meaning to buy a new one and rebuild using as many of the original parts as possible.

From there I got a Super Sabre. 4WD with a (at the time) clever diff.

However, I've just found this, having completely forgotten about it!

I got this in the early 90's. Rear wheel drive and great (although took a while to learn) for drifting. It also handles pretty well on a decent surface too. I recall putting a decent motor in there and changing the pinion gear to get the speed up. We chased it a 40mph at Aston Down runway before it lifted the front end and rose about 2 foot in air... and then landed upside-down causing some damage. It's not run for over 25 years now as the drive gear has a tooth or two missing. I'll have to dig around to see if I've got any of the missing bits and work out what I have to do to get it back in action.
