Lovely! I have an unbuilt, re-release Merc C11 in the garage but always preferred the Jag!

Finally painted the lunchbox. Went with the brightest orange I could find… also added the black wheels from the black edition. Still needs a coat of lacquer and the chrome trim pieces fitting but it’s looking good.

Sadly had another off which seems to have broken to steering servo… this thing really is delicate which for its mental nature doesn’t seem to stack up. Constant repairs needed (else I need to learn to drive better!)

Hmmm… stripped the servo down and found lots of plastic teeth from the gears. Would explain the non functioning steering. Have ordered a metal geared servo which hopefully will last longer.

I’m thinking of buying the AMG GT3 Tamiya kit 58639 as a bit of fun to make and run but also to display. I’d like to make it a bit more interesting than the boring livery it comes with, can anyone recommend places for different decal kits? Or even places that could make a custom set for reasonable cost? I’d really like the D2 livery RAM Racing ran in the Gulf 12hr in December and that 2Seas Motorsport are running in British GT this year or if that is too costly maybe the DK Engineering livery 2Seas ran last season. I have thought about buying the decal set for the 90s DTM car but I’m not confident in adapting it and some of the details are different

Are you going for the full Dyno-Rod livery ? wink

There are lots of other things to break on a Lunchbox - the "glass" (including the sunroof) is weirdly vulnerable, rear wheels spin in the tyres after a while (you can add rubber bands in the wheel grooves, or dab superglue in 3 places per side), the left rear wheelnut undoes itself (probably better to get some spare nylocs & replace that corner any time you undo it, rather than hunt for a lost hub pin), bodymounts (replace ASAP as 3 then 2 then 1 last exponentially less time, there are also alloy aftermarket ones), front wheels break & fall off around the bearing carriers - other than that they're pretty robust, have the best spares availabilty of any RC, and are great fun, especially in groups.

New steering servo fitted, much heavier duty one and it’s much much better now. Have run it a few times with no breakages.

Didn’t realise quite how top heavy they are until I took it out on some tarmac… my lovely orange paintjob is now less than perfect! All good fun though.

Surprised at its speed, and also battery life. I’m sure my
Original Tamiya cars from the late 90’s lasted less than 10 mins, this is doing at least half an hour. Very impressed

My 10 year old son found my old original hornet in the loft a week back and asked if we could get it running.

It's in a terrible state as I never had any money back then and used to make do and modify to keep the thing running.

Every day ebay are delivering new bits for me and I'm loving it and feel very nostalgic and quite close to my late father.

First things I bought were the proper ball race bearing set as I could never justify the cost as a kid. Sadly it's highlighted the need for new gearbox, uprights, etc etc....

The old Futaba gear works well though but I will rewire bits of it.

Just a modern battery (even just NiMH), properly charged on a modern charger will wake it up no end. I can remember when I went from NiCd to NiMH and got an electronic delta-peak charger instead of the clock-work one for the first time, it was like the car had been turbocharged.

Well, that was all worth the effort!

Finished off some soldering this morning to enable the BEC receiver and got the Hornet fully assembled and it’s incredible! On grass it was quick, on tarmac crazy fast. My son was blown away by the performance and actually needed to wrestle the controller off me as I was enjoying it so much.

Next step is to rebuild the rear suspension as it’s bouncing around too much. I’ve already started browsing other cars…..this is going to become expensive I think.

Had one on order since they were announced. Hoping to get it in August. Looks like an awesome modern buggy but with retro looks.

That reminds me a bit of the Cougar 2000 I had many years ago. That thing was crazy fast.
