Not Steve, just someone who wastes many, many hours on the obviously uneconomical repair of anything repairable.
Do you come from an engineering background as the stuff you are both turning out is way beyond any DIY enthusiast?Brilliant work though. A bit triggers broom but fascinating read.
Very envious and as you say plenty of folks without formal training seem to display such talents.
Just got around to this again after the garage got too cold to work in during winter. It’s not cold in there anymore…
Anyway, melted some brass inserts into the wishbones for the damper ball joints:
Also snapped an outer u/j yoke, but someone on the FB page kindly sent us a spare.
So now for the first time in a long time, it’s on its wheels:
Now to package the hardware into the chassis:
Also ordered some upper shock mounts from Schumacher. That should see it done.

Great work!!
Thanks! It’s been a good project. First bench test run tonight - everything works fine so far, but it’s terrifying to watch - the tyres bulge out at full speed and look like they’re going to disintegrate. I’m glad we got new wheels and tyres - if one let go it would be pretty dangerous.

What a great build!
I went for an interview at Schumacher’s in ’91. I was amazed at the amount of testing and R&D they did.
It was when I saw the wind tunnel – I thought “Really? This is far more serious than I thought”
Thanks! I didn’t realise they went to that much trouble either. Maybe it was more for the sports car type bodies?I went for an interview at Schumacher’s in ’91. I was amazed at the amount of testing and R&D they did.

Made some minor mods today - cut-and-shut the ESC cover so that the fan housing mow fits within the body without distorting it:
And painted the undertray:
So the Bosscat restoration is pretty much done. We used a colour scheme inspired by one of my favourite F1 car schemes, the Minardi M189. A few hard lessons learned about layering colours and pinstripe masking (lifted on all the concave radii), and the yellow overspray has ruined the pure white areas. Anyway, good enough for the garden. Still got the drivetrain whine despite tightening the clutch and diffs. I think it’s the large gear that’s a bit knackered - it’s quieter with the larger one. Goes like a stoat though. Son is happy with it.
Looks great!
I remember .. back in the day.... long time ago I used to go to a club which raced indoors on carpet, all the rich kids had these (apart from one who had a zxr) all properly lowered on foam etc. I was very jealous as all I had at the time was a steel chassis'd Mardave Meteor ... *sucked to be me!*

Got some work pals coming round next week, one to re-build his old Cobra, the other to build - I think - a re-release.I remember .. back in the day.... long time ago I used to go to a club which raced indoors on carpet, all the rich kids had these (apart from one who had a zxr) all properly lowered on foam etc. I was very jealous as all I had at the time was a steel chassis'd Mardave Meteor ... *sucked to be me!*

I had a Cobra back in the day, was the 'cheap' race-worthy car. Wanted a re-release but they stopped making them quite quickly and they were really expensive (more than the Cougar Classic i picked up) but looked very cool! You've done a top job on this!

I used to race when young too and the Mardave Meteor wasn't actually too bad, loved the Mini they did and fancy one these days still now! I always raced 2WD so started with a Schumacher Cougar and then moved to an Associated RC10 - still have them all, must do a build like this on them - enjoyed the read here!I remember .. back in the day.... long time ago I used to go to a club which raced indoors on carpet, all the rich kids had these (apart from one who had a zxr) all properly lowered on foam etc. I was very jealous as all I had at the time was a steel chassis'd Mardave Meteor ... *sucked to be me!*

I started with a Lazer 2000, which turned out to be crap and my father/I ended up replacing pretty much every part of the suspension over 2 years' racing to try and get the thing to keep up with the Losi/Schumacher buggies - got there in the end
Also have an original RC10 that I need to 'restore' at some point owing to an interface with a moving car, don't even know where to start given the age/scarcity of parts as everything was aftermarket by 'RPM' and made in a weird white material that looks a bit like Nylon or something?
Currently restoring my Bosscat. In fact it’s almost done. I raced it a few times in 1994 and it’s been on my shelf surrounded by buggies RCs that do run for several years after retrieving in from my mums loft. The car itself was mostly sound and I’ve got a small amount of spares for it from back in the 90s.
I must say, I’ve just built a re release Cougar Classic and that was a pig to build, runs very well though and I’ve ordered a upgraded diff to run a lower turn motor.
The Bosscat by comparison is a pleasure to work on.
I also sold a Cougar 2000 for parts recently as I simply couldn’t source the bits needed to repair it.
The Bosscat - Took it apart and cleaned it and rebuilt it but I’m waiting for some crashback washers, wing mount kit and some thrust race bearings all on order from Muzzoom models who seem to be a good resource for some parts. Ordered a new main drive belt just to have as a spare but I’ll run the original for now as it seemed fine.
And I’ve painted up a Penguin body. I’ll post some more pics when it’s done.
The Bosscat is the orange one with the front end missing. I’ll get some better pictures when it’s done.
