Fair enough for all those, and congratulations to the winners, but I have to say that some of the decisions in other classes were un-fathomable to me.
I attended yesterday, and was equally confused by some of the 'winners' ?! I assumed that they were being judged by some criteria that I didn't understand, but your comments make me wonder...The Tsar tank was interesting and scratch buit, but (to my eyes) not a particuarly noteworthy model. My favourite of the show was a 'crashed' aluminium B25 which had some excellent and subtle weathering, but didnt seem to merit an award. There was also a Porsche 911 which had stunningly perfect paintwork - it looked unrealistic, but the effort to achieve that was unbelievable.

My first time on the Sunday and really enjoyed it, not too busy and lots of amazing models and some nice stalls too. Only slight note of disappointment was none of the models I wanted were for sale (mostly vanilla Tamiya/Eduard) which really surprised me as I thought there’d be piles of those kits. Most of the model stalls seemed to be selling ancient kits or much newer stuff but it’s not too difficult to get hold of them on the internet instead and saved me a fortune on the day
My aim is sually to pick up acessories rather than kits - although I always end up buying some kits anyway.
I don't get too uptight about the competition as I have no interest in making my modelling activity a competitive thing. However, it's always interesting to have a look at what has been entered.
One odd thing though was that the "real space" winner turned out not to be a spacecraft but rather one of the lifting body aircraft used to test the handling characteristics of possible re-entry vehicles back in the 1960s. It was a nice model.

And the cycle begins again: Traditional season opener at Old Warden Sunday 12th February. Can't find a flyer but here's a link:

Always a worthwhile show at the museum, small cold plastic things complementing big cold metal things. The Watford delegation will again present a beacon of shiney in a field of non-reflective.

The “Huddersfield” show is back on after a 2 year absence (19th February). Bit confusing because it’s organised by IPMS Wakefield, was held in Huddersfield, then moved to Halifax, and this year is at the Royal Armories in Leeds. It was always a decent show, and despite the location changes getting further and further away from me, the drive always seems to take 40 minutes. https://www.shuttleworth.org/product/scalemodel202...

I forgot all about this thread back in August when IPMS Farnborough finally got back on the show circuit
- after missing 2020 to 2022 due to Covid and loss of venue.
However, just to let you know that we are now back in action and at a new venue, The Hart Leisure Centre near Fleet in Hampshire.
We have recently confirmed the date for 2024 - which is 15 September (Battle of Britain Day, by coincidence). I'll post updates nearer that date.

And, did you enjoy it? I had the impression that half of the exhibition is fantasy models, dioramas and the like, which attracts a younger population. Rather than the old grumpy men like me building tanks and debating cockpit colors. There are a few youtube clips giving a good idea of the show, tags SMC, Veldhoven, 2023
