Having not modelled in probably 50 years, I've just bought this.
Because earlier in the year I bought this.
Hopefully I'll get time over the holiday to at least start; let's see if I can make it look a little bit like the real one.

I'm tempted by the Airfix 107" Series One.

Basic paintwork complete, I just need to neaten up some of the paint edges and then it's time for a gloss varnish before the dreaded decals.
I think after decals and a second gloss I will try to do basic weathering and I might try to fade the paintwork a bit using white oil paint.
I’m finding that weathering using enamel washes for oil streaks, or weathering powders, don’t stick very well to a gloss surface. Pretty sure I always used to do that stuff on gloss, but I’m a bit out of practice these days. Also, with powders, the final Matt coat often makes it disappear.I think after decals and a second gloss I will try to do basic weathering and I might try to fade the paintwork a bit using white oil paint.

Good advice thanks! I've just done a gloss over the paint, I'll decal on top of that and then use a satin for the base of my pin wash and weathering. Then I'll probably satin on top of that, I have a photo of a Kfir in this scheme in a book and they seem to be satin or matt.46and2 said:

I blame the rest of you for posting your excellent progress.
Obviously I can’t start the RC build until Santa makes an appearance tomorrow night, so pulled this out of my stash.
Unusually for an older Tamiya tank kit the part count is fairly high and there are quite a few small parts…
I made a start on the figures to get me in the mood.
Then on to step one of the proper build with the rear end.
I’ll probably build this before the buggy, do that and then come back and paint this afterwards.

Woke up early, so I finished the other track section, built up the dive sprockets, idler wheels and road wheels and attached everything to the tub with PVA.
The idea is I can pull it apart to paint it once the tracks are done.
I have trial fitted the now set section of track I did last night. The realistic track sag is quite nice, although im not sure why the whole section couldn’t have been moulded in one piece. (I’m sure Tamiya has its reasons… (yes, I realise it’s due to the limitations of a two part mould)

Can’t believe it has been 9 months since I finished the red tanker !!!!
I haven’t touched any of the stash below but added a couple more ( which just got added to the pile ) , a Tamiya 1/48th Lancaster and this ....

Which I remember My older Brother had When We were kids.
I think it is the one I will start for My Xmas build .
Also had a random email this morning from another PH’er asking if I wanted to move on the tanker as it would make a relevant gift for a family member of his. Will have to consider that as it just sits on a shelf .
Merry Christmas for tomorrow All.
Cheers
