I vaguely remember building one of these years ago.

Not sure which manufacturer but it was in the U.S Air force aggressor training colours.
The F-21! biggrin Aggressor schemes are some of the best the really evoke images from Top Gun.

Having not modelled in probably 50 years, I've just bought this.

Because earlier in the year I bought this.

Hopefully I'll get time over the holiday to at least start; let's see if I can make it look a little bit like the real one. yikes
That's a nice 109"
I'm tempted by the Airfix 107" Series One.

This is going to my effort.

No picture of the actual box as it’s still in Santas warehouse.

Nice. The only new Tamiya RC car I’ve really wanted in 40 years or so since I got my Frog.

Here are the Spitfire cannon fairings being profiled to the wing after fitting & filling:

And the joints re-scribed (which didn’t work brilliantly due to the wing stubs not really matching the fairings:

Currently refining the area around the windscreen, blending it to suit the Vacform canopy.

Basic paintwork complete, I just need to neaten up some of the paint edges and then it's time for a gloss varnish before the dreaded decals.

I think after decals and a second gloss I will try to do basic weathering and I might try to fade the paintwork a bit using white oil paint.

I’m finding that weathering using enamel washes for oil streaks, or weathering powders, don’t stick very well to a gloss surface. Pretty sure I always used to do that stuff on gloss, but I’m a bit out of practice these days. Also, with powders, the final Matt coat often makes it disappear.

Good advice thanks! I've just done a gloss over the paint, I'll decal on top of that and then use a satin for the base of my pin wash and weathering. Then I'll probably satin on top of that, I have a photo of a Kfir in this scheme in a book and they seem to be satin or matt.

Personal opinion, but mine is that small scale aircraft always look terrible in gloss - even if they're gloss in real life. It just highlights all the out-of-scale surface features that inevitably get included in the design of the mouldings (plus any buld errors!). Of course there are different levels of satin, but I'd definitely err on the side of matt for yours.

So far so good with the decals, a successful day's modelling. Hopefully the decalfix works it's magic overnight.

Lots still to go but I don't think it's wise to continue as I think the Stella might start to make things a bit difficult.

Thanks for the advice again dr_gn! Happy Christmas all!

Well I couldn’t wait. I blame the rest of you for posting your excellent progress.

Obviously I can’t start the RC build until Santa makes an appearance tomorrow night, so pulled this out of my stash.

Unusually for an older Tamiya tank kit the part count is fairly high and there are quite a few small parts…

I made a start on the figures to get me in the mood.

Then on to step one of the proper build with the rear end.

I’ll probably build this before the buggy, do that and then come back and paint this afterwards.

Thanks.

The front was much simpler.

The return rollers each comprise two simple parts

The tracks are link and length and unusually for Tamiya come with a jig.

One side done. I will leave it to set overnight and do the other in the morning.

Woke up early, so I finished the other track section, built up the dive sprockets, idler wheels and road wheels and attached everything to the tub with PVA.
The idea is I can pull it apart to paint it once the tracks are done.

I have trial fitted the now set section of track I did last night. The realistic track sag is quite nice, although im not sure why the whole section couldn’t have been moulded in one piece. (I’m sure Tamiya has its reasons… (yes, I realise it’s due to the limitations of a two part mould)

Can’t believe it has been 9 months since I finished the red tanker !!!!
I haven’t touched any of the stash below but added a couple more ( which just got added to the pile ) , a Tamiya 1/48th Lancaster and this ....
url]|https://thumbsnap.com/CdzSRcap
Which I remember My older Brother had When We were kids.
I think it is the one I will start for My Xmas build .
Also had a random email this morning from another PH’er asking if I wanted to move on the tanker as it would make a relevant gift for a family member of his. Will have to consider that as it just sits on a shelf .
Merry Christmas for tomorrow All.
Cheers
Geoff
I can certainly add the build threads as am starting to get quite a stash of kits to do :-)

Oh and this little beauty that I picked up at a model sale at sywell airfield museum last Sunday.

Merry Christmas fellow plastic enthusiasts.

I have kind of accomplished my aim of building this before the big day.

I realised this is about as far as I can get as I need to paint inside the turret.

I have to say this is a pretty nice kit.

Hope you all have a great day!

Nice models - love the rocket and the Fiat.
