I took the oppurtunity while at my parents to snap some old model planes that my father and i put together some 40 years ago, hope this helps with any of your painting schemes.
The models are mostly Airfix and Revel.

WOW! Nice one Cliff! seeing those clear plastic stands on the Airfix planes brings back memories!
I remember buying the Warlord comic, just for the latest kit reviews, that must have been almost 30 years ago!

Chris i think the clear ones are "Airfix" and the coloured stands "Revel",although ile stand corrected.
Your right time does fly ,pardon the pun, although me and my old man had some good time together arranging them this afternoon.
He always breaks into a story or two,its just a shame that now he is in his 80' ,his memories are fading.

I used to spend hours in model and toy shops looking over the latest kits and some of those reviews the shops used to supply would be worth a few bob now.Ive got some old bagged up aircraft models in the loft, ile have to dig them out some day.

I've made quite a few of those myself and yours look alot neater than my efforts from that era! The little green russian Polikarpov 1-16 is one of my favourite planes. They had the real thing flying at one of Duxford's airshows not so long ago.

I must admit the little Polikarpov 1-16 has always intrigued me,its so tiny and you could fit it under the wing of a typhoon.

I found this site of a wood built RC 1-16

Must bring back fond memories, Cliff.

It does actually LA,i spent many an hour in my childhood breathing in the smell of glue, paint and "Guards" ciggarettes .
I say my fathers memory is in question sometimes, but in fact his memory is sometimes better than mine, today he reminded me that i built the "Spad" (plane in the 1st photo with No1 on wing),i dont remember

The Spad is Revell and, if I remember correctly, portrayed Rddie Rickenbacker's aircraft.

What is the backdrop? An aerial photograph of a model railway?

Ive got these 3 kits i was going to list on ebay soon but if you make a realistic offer then they can be heading your way,i bought them about 6 years ago from a dusty old model shop in London.

Those are in the mid 1970 "blister packs". I have some 1960s "plastic baggged" Airfix models. I probably won't make them now as most of the kits can be obtained in their more modern "boxed" versions.

Sorry Simon, I can appreciate the skill involved in constructing a nice well made model, like those shown but why just buy them and leave them in their box? That's plain weird... Rich...

Well each to their own I suppose but collecting kits is not something I can entertain either, however I know some people that collect kits for the box art, which was often very good.

I sold a few kits on ebay that I knew were never going to be anything other than loft insulation and one seemed to be getting a much higher price than the few pounds I'd spent buying it some 5 years previously. When I checked it out it seems that the although the kit was still in production, it seems they had altered colour scheme and put different decals in.

Once the auction had completed it seems that the buyer had indeed bid on it just to get the decals!

Did you see that James May chap off Top Gear before Xmas he did a programme about his favourite toys. He made the point that collectors are now buying Hornby and Traing trains just to keep them in the box and never run them or 'play with them' as he put it. Some chap was saying he even checks the treads of the wheels to ensure an engine has never been run. How sad to buy a nice model and never see it in motion which is after all, why it has a motor! Yes! I liked the part where he bought that old boxed set at the auction and then asked the staff to put the box in the bin! (that's a bit of a shame really, but I could imagine all those collectors sitting slack jawed at the telly and couldn't help but laugh!)

My "collection" is totally accidental. When I buy a kit I always "intend" to build it. However, I don't often get around to making the thing so it ends up becoming a collector's item - by default.
