Anyone into old Tamiya's?
Discussion
Waaaay cool thread.
I fully restored my F1 camel honda lotus and took me a while to find a NIB shell as well as a new cross member to hang the rear wing off. Luckily ebay came up trumps with the part showing up still attached to its sprue from a guy in Chicago. I remember hooning it up and down my road with a Gold motor trying different pinions to max out on speed.
I also have a new issued Hornet and the 6-wheeler F1 car (re issue) sitting in boxes ready to get buildt when I have time.
Next on list is a Frog and Brat.

God this thread has brought back some memories!
My first Tamiya was a Hornet in what must have been 1984/5-sh. At a distructive age, I managed to break two gearboxes and a couple of chassis. I fitted ball races and upgraded the rear shocks (why, I don't know!) and fitted a black 540 endurance motor.
After trashing the bodyshell I ended up fitting a Thundershot shell (I think).
The car was a blast and there wasnt a kid in the village whose car could keep with me in straight line .... but when it came to corners .... oh boy, it just understeered into the nearest kerb and smashed the bumper for the 6th time ...
Ahh those were the days...

Such a cool thread!! Never ventured here before, it's like reminiscence (sp?) therapy Great to hear that Tamiya are re-releasing some of the older cars.
Moved house a few months back and found a Monster Beetle and the Escort Cosworth in the shed!! I remember pestering my Dad for them years ago, and there they were- covered in dust 15 years later, gave me a real flashback. My best mate had a yellow Baja kitted Beetle at the time so the Monster Beetle was painted the same as his. When the Cossie came out I was doing my work experience in the local Cossie tuners so I copied theirs- white with tiger stripes up the rear quarters.
I reckon the Beetle has seen better days but the Cossie would probably run again with a re-build, they're only gathering dust in my new garage so if anyones interested drop me a pm...

Used to have the Lunchbox and bought a Midnight Pumpkin shell for it. Slow as pants but cool as you like!
Had a black Ford pickup but can't remember the name??
Also had a Kyosho Pegasus (when it ran) and a Mardave Ministock.
Just remembered, borrowed a mates Technigold motor for the Lunchbox. It made it wheelie and flip all the time!Had a black Ford pickup but can't remember the name??

Roop,
Just been looking at your collections on the tamiya club website - very impressive!!!
I used to have a Toyota Hilux that looked very similar to your Mountaineer, it was on skinnier tyres but had the 4 forward and reverse gears.
Are these things worth a few quid nowadays then? It must still be in my parent's attic somewhere.
In fact, this is the one: http://www.rcgrabbag.com/rccars/hilux/index.htm

Wow !
Never been in this part of the PH forum before, but I'm very glad I dropped in now.
I've always wanted a Tamiya RC car - I remember spending hours and hours pouring over the glossy catalogues back in the early 90s.
'The Blackfoot' was the object of my desire back then but alas, Dad decided that they were too expensive and being thirteen years old with no income of my own, it never happened
Anyone know if there are plans for a 'Blackfoot' re-release ? If not it's going to have to be 'the Hornet'...
Same, wow! I had a vague memory Id seen this forum before, cant believe its been here under my nose all along. It really does bring back the memories... mainly memories of me being 9/10 and like you, also unable to raise the funds to buy one. Brilliant thread!Never been in this part of the PH forum before, but I'm very glad I dropped in now.

I have to admit that the more I think about it, the more confused I am with Tamiya as to why they have released all these old models again.
Im sure its to rope in people like me, who never had one but always wanted one. I mean, if you didnt own a frog/hornet/whatever... then of course it would be at the very very top of your "Must Have!" list. Afterall, what in the world would a young wipper snapper want more than his own RC car.

No, but I should have some pills I reckon. Been concentrating on the 'copters more recently so not bought many cars (he says with two more in the post as I write). It's all great fun and a good excuse to be a big kid...!Gassing Station | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
