Pics of your models, please!

It took a while to figure that out - it looked from the first picture like you'd started with a badly damaged model (pictured on a kitchen worktop) and then repaired it. Then I realised the first picture was the complete model, just surrounded by foam packing.
Yeah definitely a whole model, it was hard enough fixing the real thing!!mrloudly said:
I like the Tristar where's it from?
Wife's cousin has just got back from Cyprus after repairing a broken undercarriage on one ;-)
It was made by Gemini (I think that is how you spell it) from there 1/200 scale range. The white one as in my post is now discontinued so I had to hunt this one down on e-bay. It came all the way from the good old US of A, Kansas infact. I think Gemini are still doing one in the modern grey colour scheme but to me the TriStar will always be the 'Big White Party Bus'. Its christmas, so I treated myself...
Le mans is turning out to be a bit of a theme, all 1/18, varying quality, but am ok with that for the money.
a Shelby Collectible Aston Martin
Norev Porsche 917
a Shelby gt40
Now just have to wait for them to turn up (and ensure the better half doesn't see them all at once)....

I dont think we have had any construction vehicles on this thread yet. I have a slight obsession with them, most of which are Norscot models and I do like Caterpillar yellow! Here is my collection so far;
First up, a few Lego models
Then a few small scale CATs
There is the occasional interloper from another brand;
Then I discovered the 1:50 scale Norscot models and started collecting them;
Logger
Underground mining digger and tipper
A Soil Compactor
Excavator
Materials Handler
A low load trailer and tractor unit
The latest addition isn't a Caterpillar but is a rare Norscot model as far as I can tell
Piling Rig
I keep an eye out and have picked all these up as bargains, I just need to sort somewhere now to display them as they are currently stored in cardboard from before I moved house.

Do you know what guise that DBR1 is meant to portray? It's certainly not as it raced at Le Mans. I expect it's copied from its current restored state. It also appears to have a AMOC badge on the grill.a Shelby Collectible Aston Martin
It would seem not...although I didn't realize this, I still like it.

To my eyes the top of the rear wheelarch is way too thick. I wouldn't have noticed the inaccurate wheel fairing issue unless RichB had pointed it out, but what stood out to me were the wire wheels which are pretty crude, especially for 1:18.
Still a good looking model though - no models are perfect.

Thing is and it's something you often talk about in your threads about building WWII fighters, you have to chose to represent a model in a particular moment in time. These cars were changed and rebodied by the factory as part of a continual process of improvement. So these days the Salvadori/Shelby DBR1 looks nothing like it did in 1959. There is another thread elsewhere about a representation of it with a yellow noseband, something Aston did to distinguish its various cars on track but as can be seen it didn't have a noseband in 59. Still as has been said, stunningly good looking cars.

Conversely if I saw I really nice aircraft model that looked 'not quite right' in shape, unless it was grossly wrong I'd probably assume I'd mis-remembered the original.
To my untrained DBR-1 eyes, the only real issue would have been the wheels, which could be a bit better no matter what car model they were on.
Working on a late republic/early empire Roman Quinquereme right now. It was initially going to be 32nd scale, but that would have been too big at 1.6 metres long, so I scaled it to 1:48, giving a length of just over a metre.
So far, it's been very enjoyable but more challenging than the stuff I normally do, as there are no existing line drawings, so much research was/is required to draw a completely new set of line drawings for this model using as much written and pictorial evidence as possible. I think designing a way to accurately simulate the oarsmen benches was the biggest headache...
