Airfix 1/72 Sherman Firefly found in the middle aisle of Lidl at half price £4 for the "Starter Set"
Corrected some of the errors in the kit, removed the bow machine gun (removed on Fireflies for extra ammo storage) and added the extra armour plates. The khaki is from the pot that came in the kit but the other colours and weathering are all Vallejo acrylics. Nice little kit.

Work in progress:
My Grandfather was from Wilmslow originally, born 1911.
By the mid 1930’s he found himself living on Rhode Island & married to an American.
By 1939 the marriage wasn’t going so well & WW2 had broken out.
He took a train to Ontario & joined the RCAF.
Having completed his training he became a Navigator in the RCAF & then completed further training before being posted to a Heavy Bomber Conversion Unit.
Finally he became operational with 433 Squadron RCAF based at Skipton-on-Swale in Yorkshire.
I have some of his papers from that period:
I personally love the “is your journey REALLY necessary” based on this wartime propaganda poster:
As you can see BM is the squadron code for 433 (verified from other sources) and the aircraft code letter is J.
Digging around I found that BM-J in October 1944 was MZ905, a H2S equipped Handley Page Halifax BIII.
This corresponds to the entry in his log book.
It’s a long way from finished but as I decalled the fuselage this evening I thought I’d share:
His crew completed their tour, and the next one.
I haven’t established how many Ops but it’s around 50-60. Which is quite something.
Frustratingly he had to De-Mob in Canada.
Presumably with some war pay in his pocket & a free spirit born of getting quite intimate with death he headed west, and ended up settling in Ceylon.
Only returning to England in 1960.
I barely knew him as I was quite young, he passed away when I was 12. But wish I could take him for a pint & pick his brain now.
Anyway, enough rambling, I have turrets wings & engines to build!

I know exactly what you mean about taking him for a pint and picking his brain-my grandfather was a Royal Navy man, he joined pre war when he was 16 years old and loved it but had to leave because my grandmother suffered from depression when he was at sea-recalled in 1939 he finished the war as a chief petty officer, and was at Dunkirk,(his ship did four trips) and his ship was the command ship for the mulberry harbour on D day-I’d love to be able to ask him about his war.

Not yet brave enough to tackle the next scale up, 1/9…
Yet you've made one in 72nd! More pics and info please. Your phone needs to be on microscope setting I think!1/9th? Ha, easy! Parts are so much bigger, can see them without magnifyers and you'll never lose any to the carpet monster. Only downside is knowing when to stop with the superdetailing...

Thanks, although I suspect the blurryness flatters the little one a bit
It’s the value of the 1/9 that scares me. They’re Model Factiry Hiro, purely as they’re the only ones that do models of vintage British bikes. Be a while yet I think!
Just getting back into RC and I kinds feel like a fraud for posting something that was 99.5% complete and just required connecting and installing the major surfaces.
(I have put this securely in the garage as the pup was going to absolutely destroy it the second I looked away).
Things have moved on massively since I was last into RC with my trusty Futaba setup. These things basically have auto pilot and will return to the runway and land in 2ft square from where you initialize it...
