What RC car? Help

Big Dunc wants an RC car, but isnt sure which one to go for.
He doesn't have a soft spot for any vintage models in particular, so I suggested he went for something newer/ better and more up to date than my hornet. What are the best/newer fastest models. Electric is preferred (cause of noise, ie small kids, neighbours, etc) - Any suggestions as to what the most highly recommended electric model available is?
Preferred car is a 4WD buggy, good for both on and off road.
re: "Best" ... ideally it would be a good combination of performance and easy maintenance. Something durable which performs well and doesnt break easily or require loads of maintenance.
re: price, not looking to chuck mega money at it, something in the £150 price range (combo kit, everything included) pr perhaps up to around the £200 mark.
What do you guys recommend? Am I right in thinking the Dark Impact would possibly be the best buy, to fit the criteria above?

Trucks are always a laugh and pretty indestructible (it's amazing just how high they'll jump without breaking 
). Used to have one of these myself, but perhaps a little over budget:

Does anyone else have any other recommendations regarding which of the current electric buggies performs best? There are so many to choose from.

You cant go wrong with tamiya dark impact. It's fast, fun to drive. it's raceable they can picked up about £100, and radio control controller off ebay for £25 or so.

Generally speaking if you're after a "proper" electric 1/10 scale RC buggy and you're not competing I'd go for 2wd. The reason being is that you'll get a much longer run time than with 4wd as you're driving less belts and gears. It makes a really big difference. Make sure you get something which is fully ballraced (helps with run time and performance) and get something with oil-filled shocks as they handle much better off road. The quality of Tamiya is second to none and the instructions are foolproof. Get a couple of batteries which you can run back to back for maximum fun and get a mains powered peak charger rather than a 12v job as they're a bit more user friendly.

Cheers Neil.I spoke to model sport today, and they recommended one of these saying the modern suspension was far better than the hornet, which helps put power down, acceleration and steering would also be improved - they said, for under £200, these cars (top 4 buggies buggies, only difference between them being the colour scheme) would be good performers. They reckon the top speed would be 35mph vs the hornets 18mph, so they are nearly twice as quick. They are fully ballraced and are on special at the moment.
Anyone had any experience with them?
UK Bob has perswaded me that I need ( yet another ) hobbie to take up the time and money I did not actualy have in the first place.
To be honest, I have wanted to do this for ages. Since, err, about the age of five, which was a VERY long time ago.
I won't be racing, so its just a fun machine. ( Obviously, it has to be faster than Bob's Hornet ). Our garden is not the smoothest place in the world, so a strict on road machine is probably a bad idea. That leaves buggys or trucks.
At present, I have one major stumbling block to get over. Mrs Big Dunc overheard my conversation with Bob over the weekend, and thought it would be a good idea to get me an RC car for my birthday which is coming up. Sweet thought, but then she did some investigation. The result is when I mentioned it on the phone tonight ( I work away during the week ) she said "no your not, I know how expencive they are, and your not having one" ( this is after I gave her a £600 dishwasher last week, but a different rule must have applied to that! ). Anyway, my cunning plan is to get a 2nd hand one. Then I can justify that it is a once only bargin, and I have saved loads of money ( which would be handy as I after the dishwasher, theres not a lot left over ). I probably would have enjoyed the building, but as Bob will confirm, I have plenty in the garage that needs my hands on skills, so I won't miss that part of it. If I get really hooked, then I may build the next one. I am sure that plenty of people on here love the building, so much so that they have a couple of cars sitting around that never get used. So if you feel like letting it go to a good home, nows the time...

He has a point Dunc. No chance of talking her round? Otherwise there is Ebay. Tell her you want this and then agree to settle for a car of your choice.
Bungleaio was selling a falcon. I did email him, but didnt hear back
possibly a PH/mailer/spamfilter bug as PH mails often fail to reach me. Id quite like to buy and build one from scratch myself but I dont think they were re-released, so finding parts may be hard. Can anyone comment on that?Have you decided on anything yet?
If not get yourself over to www.oople.com and look for things for sale on there, garunteeded to find you a well looked after electric buggy, failing that get an RTR Team Associated RC10B4, ok there 2wd but there quick.
