not having a TV is a good excuse to try something different. i have a small collection of Jaguars and thought i would give it a go at making a Diorama. but also i wanted the case to reflect some of how a Jaguar D type (what the XKSS is based on) is put together. so i made a case from Aluminium, solid rivited the edges together and used 2BA mush-head screws to hold the perspex cover on.

the XKSS itself i modified to make it look like it needed some work. i bought some workshop equipment but the hand-tools, mug, piston, the little workshop manuals, and the workbench i made myself. and the posters are printed on a normal priter. it is not 100% finished , but it's close

just got to make two more now smile

Very nice job........

And a small personal opinion........its too clean biggrin

whilst appreciating that people like to keep their workshops clean.....it neeeds a bit of aging for the fully authentic feel.

However, dont let the opinion of this armchair critic detract from a lovely piece of work.

it's 1/18 scale.

it's cost me about £80 all in for everything but i have been asked to make one with a 1/18 'D' type but the model alone is around £200.

Good work there. I have been wanting to do that for a while now. I saw some one do that with 65' mustage at a flea market a couple of months ago.

Indeed a very nice model. One other point, is this meant to be a current setting or historic i.e. 1950's? I just noticed the "male interest" pictures are a little risque if 50's, not that I was looking that closely of course wink

Nice job. I'd say a modern setting - where did you get a miniature version of the Goodwood Revival pit sign?

i just did it as a garage with no age in mind

as for the revival pit sign that was easy, i took a photo of one at work. and the photo of the Lister i took when i was down at the LeMans Classic in the collection area.

i work on these cars for a living smile

Who do you work for Bozwell? We had 86 PJ in our studio just after Henry had finished doing it (I publish C&SC as well as running PH). Is it CKL?

That is a fantastic job you've done there!

Out of interest, as you've mentioned you're making a couple more, would/do you make these or the components to sell at all, as I'd be interested buying some tools from you (the spanners/pliers etc)?

I'm looking to do something similar along a Ford theme which I've already bought a couple of four-poster ramps for, along with a couple of sets of workshop equipment i.e. the tool chest, welding gear etc, but those hand tools you've done are exquisite. I may be interested in some workbench-type stuff as well if you're prepared to do it?

Got a trailer and towcar as well:

sorry i wont be making any bits to sell as there is so much time involved it's just not worth it. but if you want to have a go i just used bits of aluminium welding rod which is very soft and easy to shape. PM me your address and i'll send some raw materials the same as i used.

you will just need some micro drill bits, some micro files and a small battery drill or similar, plus you can get small anvils and hammers from ebay to work the ally

iv'e started another diorama. this one is for the CKL office as i keep knicking all the little bits and pieces and the metal from work biggrin

this one will be a little different as it will be slightly smaller . the model is exactly the same but i will leave this one complete. the thing is that there is some very nice engine detail that is not seen when the model is shut in a plexiglass box.

except that this one will have the option of having the bonnet open or shut without having to take the lid off tongue out

rod connected to bonnet

goes through the floor

then to a lever

which opens and closes the bonnet

this is the stage i am at at the moment

still lots to do. i'll post more pictures when i get further along with it

Barry, I know you are a bloody good mechanic but this is poetry and art! Now find (or make me!) a 1:18 of mine please! I have a friend coming today who made dioramas and I am sure he will be amazed. Incidentally, here are a couple of shots of 86 PJ when it was in bits a few years back. I ws surprised that the clutch was spring not diaphragm.

I recognise those shelves. Is that upstairs at Henry's place?

No, that was downstairs outside at Henry's about, if memory serves, five years back. I was there trying to buy this car which Henry had had there for four years but didn't agree on price. It wasn't Henry's he was selling it for the owners. I saw it racing at Silverstone last year which is all to the good. Based on an RS Panels shell so bloody good.

Here'a photo of the lightweight engine:-
