Tamiya Sand Scorcher
Discussion
Anyone noticed the price these go for on EBay:

Couldn't give them away in the mid eighties, now worth £1800! Even original built models without a box go for several hundred.
Cheers,

well, I suppose that back in the 80's the grass hopper, hornet, frog, hotshot, bigwig, boomerang, midnight pumpkin, all came through in a matter of months.
Which left the rather cack sand scorcher in their shadow as they moved on to 4 wheel drive and monster truck fads. Thus making them the rarity and attracting megas values by super freak afficianados of the 80's tamiya rc cars, does anyone remember the tamiya lambourghini jeep???
personally I started with a Marui Super Wheelie ( like a Wild Willy Jeep), then a Boomerang, then a schumacher cat XLS - Tamiya kits were always really easy to uild and nicely produced, unlike schumachers rapid but altimately thrown together cat.
I still have my original boomerang at my mums house with an AC Cobra shell (with flames of course) and a Texaco sponsored Sierra RS500 shell!.
wow, I just realised how much of an RC geek I am

Someone will be a bit upset when they re-release it for £269!
They've already announced the re-release of the Rough Rider so surely it's only a matter of time?

Friend of mine bought one a few years ago along with some Lancia Delta's, has made a few quid out of re selling them lately and none of them were in immaculate condition.

Youd have to be crazy to pay £1500+ for an original Sand Scorcher in box if a new item is way less than £300, even including original spec 'upgrades'.
Cheers,
I just want one to build and run. I have a number of vintage Tamiyas (including my own original 1984 Hornet) which all get very, very abused.
I have not bought an SRB yet as I know I would break it, and parts are just far too expensive, let alone the price of buying the thing in the first place.
Having said that, I am loving the modern handling of very, very modified DF-03. Mental fast brushless system in it, fantastic fun.

lambourghini jeep???
think that was the XR311 combat support vehicle ,
my mate had one , was a great first radio control car.
Was there a dune buggy called the day buggy ? i remember a kid at school in the 80's
having one complete with a driver wearing a hat.

My dad spent many evenings building this in secret, so it was ready for action on Christmas morning.
Body wasn't very strong, and I wasn't very good at driving it, so it ended up in many pieces.
Just came across this after googling it 'cos it was shown in Autocar.
I can't believe it's been 30 years since I scrimped and saved my paper round money for what felt like years, to buy a Tamiya Sand Scorcher. And the best bit is I've still got it, less the bodywork, which was very frail in the hands of a thirteen year old.
Might just get a replacement now they are remaking them.
