Hi folks,
just a quick heads up to anybody who, like me,gets fed up buying more plastic parts to replace broken body mounts. There are some available on Ebay at the moment made from high grade aluminium. Mine turned up yesterday and I have to say they are fantastic, gave the lunchie a real hard time tonight and everythings still good just to make a change! My best buy since the TVR,hehe

Sorry i can't do linkies,

How about pictures? I'm 31 or something now, and even when i was a kid, the Lunchbox was an iconic RC truck, along with the Monster Beetle, Midnight Pumpkin and the Clodhopper. They only just released the Bullhead at that time!

They're also well known for putting all the stress elsewhere and cracking the chassis tub rather than just the usual broken mount, although personally I've never broken the plastic mounts even after some significant skatepark action. In fact I was utterly amazed recentlly when one of the kids down the road managed to ride over the nose of mine and the onlt damage was a small crack to the a-pillar and some rubber marks in the bonnet and roof! Advice from most VLB owners seems to be to replace with standard items and keep a few on stock just in case.

Thats strange, I've just got so fed up with replacing my mounts, literaly every outing they snap, so i had to try something. Think i'll take my chances with the chassis, after todays run i'm more than happy and will worry about modding the chassis if it does brake rather than purchasing more bloody mounts! I also got told not to put to much power through the thing because the gearbox won't stick it, lol! she's been running a 5.5T BL modified Nosram brushless set up with Nosram 5300 lipo power for about five months with no problems what so ever... apart from those mounts! Not sensible at all, but oh so much fun, I used to crave for a Lunchbox when i was a kid, now i,m 32 coming on 12, and i'm so gonna get flamed! hehe

I really will have to learn how to post pictures, sorry!

With the amount of power you're running crisp I'd be interested in what rear suspension setup you're running. 3rd shock mod?

I've been running an interesting little mod of my own which involves putting back the temporary screws which hold up the little front spring during the build. Then beefing up the standard wire springs with some safety pins cut to suit and then sleeved in rubber to further damp the front pivot. Works great on standard power and a bit more, but I dunno about the amount you're running. It much stiffer when it comes to overall left/right articulation than standard but feels much more progressive and with the front lowered slightly by the usual rubber spacers in the top of the stock friction struts it actually handles ok. As badly as you expect from a VLB but a little more predictable at least!

All the VLB's I've seen with the 3rd shock mod always seem to get large amounts of body roll before suddenly flipping. I am thinking about two short hard shocks on the pivot if I ever hop up to more power.

scratchchin That's a bit of a can of worms, I was told not to go below 21turns on a good brushless motor, but one of my friends had used an 11turn brushed for a while with no major problems,so i thought i'd go a bit wilder with the Nosram. It all depends what you want out of your LB, try looking on the Modelsport and Tamiyaclub forums for a bit more advicesmile

As for my suspension, i'm running Ansmann racing 85mm shocks all round, with the third shock also Ansmann being 75mm and I don't seem to suffer from huge amounts of body roll. Next on my list of upgrades is a slightly bigger wheelie bar set-up.... and it would also be nice to keep the tyres on the rims for more than 5 minutes at a time hehe

Cheers,
Harley

Lol, christ were we separated at birth? A 30 something TVR nut (i assume the crisp500 relates to a griff or chim 500 you lucky dog?), mental lunch with the same shock setup and problem with the tyres etc lol and the same views.

I'm sick of paying £13 for loads of parts when i only need one item that don't last, i've got bumpers coming out of my ears and as for the chassis its much stronger than the mounts and if it does crack once in a blue moon, of which apparently thats how often it will happen if at all, they're only £4.99 free post on ebay. Google search "lunchbox mounts tamiyaclub" and the first thing to come up is the forum page where someone has bought some and done a big review with some pics.

I've run my re re lunch with a 12t checkpoint brushed motor, no limit esc and 4000 lipo nearly all year, it goes like st, wheelies on tap at any speed, it does 35-40 mph and the gearbox is still sweet with no problems. Bearings is a must with more power and any type of gearbox will fail with an idiot on the controls just coming off the throttle when landing from a jump etc will help loads.
A good brushless for your lunch? If its for thrashing about on a park or a big area with grass then 6.5t (about the same as 12t brushed) would be about the limit but you would need to upgrade everything but for a smallish garden then 10.5t will be plenty. Losi sensored are very good for the money, i run a losi 4.5t on 11.1v in my DB01-R and you can adjust the throttle to any percentage, how agressive you want it and loads of other adjustments from a simple setup card so you could run a bigger motor just turn it down for small areas.

I run ansmann dampers and third shock, body roll and flipping is not an issue at all apart from backwards from being an idiot on the throttle lol which has been sorted know with a bigger wheelie bar, will post a new youtube clip soon, its propably more to do with either the crap standard shocks or the wrong set up. Medium springs and oil on the front and soft on the back seem to work a treat.

Sorry i've run on abit but you've all covered many topics and if you think i'm talking bks then please look on youtube at lunchbox 12t (flame job, red wheels) and db01-r 7100kv.

Matt.

Spare bumpers and sidepipes can always be palmed off on those of us who might want to put a new shelfer body together wink
