While Stocks Last.

It is definitely discontinued in the UK.
I thought it had just changed formula, Eric, the new formula being not up to spec for our purposes? That's the impression I got from the model rail sites I visit.

I'll have to look out some of that PVA, thanks for the tip.

I'm not sure if anyone makes a 1/48 Tempest in kit form.

There have been a few in 1/72.

It has definitely been replaced by a new product which, by all accounts, is not suitable for models. I don't know what the brand name is.

Pledge Multi-Surface Wax is the new name & formula but it also has Klear on the bottle. Someone tried a new bottle and didn't get the expected results, especially as it's now brown in colour (and smells of old schools apparently). Alternatives are available from tile and floor shops, but it is apparently a little bit more expensive (couple of quid)

The new product removes the old application of polish as it is laid down on the tiled floor - so it strips and polishes at the same time preventing a build up of layers of polish on the floor. That mighht be fine for the average kitchen but is not what a modeller wants.

In total, I must have sprayed at least 10 coats of Klear onto my Globemaster during all the messing about I did with it, and the level in the bottle only dropped by about 20mm. Just buy 6 or so bottles now, and at that rate of use they would last you for dozens of models.

Agreed.

I think I might have a lifetime supply smile

I wonder what the shelf life is though?

In that case, at my current level of stress, my 2009 supply should see me out.

Didn't know it had been around that long. I found out about Klear around 1991/92 or so.

Eduard did one. There are lots of "superdetailing" bits, etched components and the like, still knocking around on Hannants, but nothing to stick them to.

Here's one made by someone else.

Hasegawa? (Typhoon, but near enough!)

Just taken a look at the components on the sprue. I like the finely engraved panel lines. But I don't think the complex contours below the wing/fuselage intersection are very well captured. I'll post some pics tomorrow. The cockpit canopy is not terribly good. I must have grown - it all seems very small.

There are some reviews online that say the same about the canopy and wing contours.

Most Spitfire afficianados still say that the Airfix 172 Vb is the best in that scale. Airfix got the dimensions basically correct and captured the subtle curves of the wing root fillet undersides correctly as well. Its main shortcoming is the spartan cockpit and lack of wheel well detail.
