Did you have too much paint on the brush?
Yeah, got too cocky. The ladders went really well so I waded in - should have known better. Noticed one side of the hull where I want to paint is quite badly deformed during moulding, that'll be the side that faces the wall hehe I did notice it to start but now it's all painted it has brought it out.
I know dr_gn has suggested using Milliput for the crack/joint of the deck and hull stern but it is also brilliant for the kind of "moulding distortion" you have just described here.

For the sake of keeping her against the wall that side for ever I would consider having a go with some Milliput, it really does work wonderfully when wetted and will even adhere to painted surfaces and sand down smooth afterwards.

I would however take away any paint where the blemish is then repaint, if it were me. On the whole side of the hull a repaint won't show like a patch paint job might

You are doing very nicely, I rather like old Cutty Sark myself.

maybe

Cheers perdu. Now the wheelhouse is on the deck the join at the back really can't be seen, I'm going to leave it. The deformation is actually over the name of the ship on the bow and would be a real sod to get right, once painted I'd suggest only I would know it's there and may elect to leave it and see how it looks when repainted. I know that sounds a bit defeatist, and non-perfectionist but I sometimes think one has to let these things go or develop OCD about the whole build! hehe You have to get within centimetres to notice it.

Just been browsing the shrouds/rigging and sail fitment. 'kinell - that'll be fun!

One question to the masses, it's really not clear on the instructions or any pictures I have seen how the anchors fit, looks a bit like they are just slung over the side. I have had a look round and will check again on Britmodeller (pretty sure someone who posts here has done this build detailed on there) but if anyone has some suggestions on how they go I'd be very grateful biggrin

Re the anchors: they are just chained up along the side of the forward hull. This link may/may not work:

The rear is chained around something (perhaps a railing post or bollard would do on your model), and the front is suspended from a cathead. Not sure if catheads are included in the kit?

Thanks thumbup Don't know why I didn't check Webshots as I have pics there myself! If the catheads are the the parts with the gold end in the picture then yes the kit has those - another dab of gold for me to do!

Hobbycraft etc for miniature chain?

I looked in Hobbycraft for chain of the right size, but what they had was too big. Can't remember where I got mine from, but I think it was a model shop specialising in boats strangely enough!

I'm fairly sue that White Ensign do chains but a quick look on their not very good website would say not. Maybe worth emailing them though as I'm sure I've seen packs of chain on their stand at Telford.

Keep looking then putting it back down again. Really want to get it done and crack on with another, but need motivation.

I think this is the trouble - finding a decent amount of time to dedicate to it - much easier in the winter months when is dark/raining/horrible. Lot more tricky when the better weather comes.

Does anyone else find they do more over the winter months?

I do have this problem with some projects. My current ship build has stalled mainly due to life and illness getting in the way. Plus it's car club season so I'm out in the XK8 a lot more often with the associated fettling in between meets.

Sad to say I've still not touched it. It is the season to be out and about and that's the problem. frown
