A few years ago my father in law died. He had a collection of model cars, buses, lorries of all different types and sizes. There is probably 100-150 peices altogether. Some, but not all are boxed and some have certificates. Can anyone recommend a place I can take them to get a fair price for them only we are having to put the mother in law into a home now and we need to clear out her house.

Use the 'completed auctions' facility on eBay to see what similar items sold for. Bit long-winded I know, but you will want to get the best prices.

Whatever you do it's best to sell to collectors if you can, as dealers will only offer you a trade price that allows them to make a profit.

Why not rent a table at a swapmeet at about £20 or £30 for an entire day?

You can do a couple of things, sell them via ebay but selling individually means you need to search, list and post every item, Sell as a job lot on ebay may be a good option but be prepared for a barrage of questions. You could sell at a Toyfair/Swapmeet but unless your prices are just below the norm you will struggle to sell to anyone (Last one I tried resulted in me selling 90% of my stuff to trade and almost sod all to the public collectors).

You could Take some pics and stick up an advert on PH, would be free and you could listen to offers, or (and this may be the easiest if not the most profitable option) call up a local auction house or two and see if they will put them into a sale for you, you may be lucky and find one with a toy sale running in the near future. Toy auction houses are all listed here http://www.collectors-club-of-great-britain.co.uk/...

Thanks for suggestions but ended up selling to a dealer who sells on ebay. Only got 1/2 of what they were worth but haven't got time or inclination to do ebay or car boot etc, I'm far too lazy for that.
Anyway all gone now except for the best ones which the family has kept.
