When my son was 3 I bought him a 'my first Scalextric' and it's always been a hit. Now he's 5 and Daddy has decided a proper Scalextric is in order for him (us). I'm looking on Ebay at sets but have seen digital sets, non digital and it got me thinking about what I need to get started and expand the track/set over time. Is the track all the same? Are transformers and the like all inter-compatible?
I did'nt have one when I was young (had a TCR instead - remember those?) so am new to all this.

As always, thanks in advance.

The digital stuff is cool, you can run multiple cars on a single track and there are some neat lane change pieces. You can get adaptors to convert old track to the newer Sport track. The only downside of digital is that you have to modify all your existing cars at a cost of about £12 each. I would buy a digital starter pack to get you the power supply, controllers, couple of cars, and go from there.

TCR eh? Those were the days!

If it's just the 2 of you and he is still learning I'd say standard is fine, probably a bit much to learn the lane change etc. But you can upgrade later when he has the hang of it.
I just have the standard and feel no real need to upgrade.
