Bit late to this one but that brings back some memories. Went to Italy via France and Germany in one of those, with a mate and his family in my lower sixth summer holiday. Six of us plus a tent, and a trailer tent on the back. His sister had a broken leg so she got the whole of the third row of seats to herself;)It wad white, rusty and needed a push start most days. We became well known with the other campers who would cheer whem we finally got it going after a couple of push circuits of the campsite.
Bits fell off all the way there and back - exhaust, door handle, front suspension collapsed in the Dolomites and had to be bodged up by a local agricultural engineer.
It also overheated regularly on the autostrada,.but got us there and back chugging along at 50mph with the heater on and all the windows open;)
His Dad chopped it in for washers when we returned and got a Cavalier instead. More reliable but zero character, and only 5 seats! What was he thinking of?
Great memories and one of the best holidays I ever had.

Had this for nearly a year now. Still enjoying it and it’s a proper hoot. Not stupidly fast in a straight line but show it a corner and it lights up.
I'm considering one of these as a bit of a fun allrounder. I understand they're pretty economical on a run?Much in the way of torque steer? I've read a few reports saying they do a little.
You do get a little torque steer when you plant it but I’d say nothing too dramatic. Tyres make a big difference, Michelins PS4s or equivalent are more suited and anything that isn’t really a performance tyre tends to exacerbate it. They really are quite sensitive to tyre choice.
I get around 40mpg on average and my normal driving incorporates quite a bit of dual carriageway. Insurance is reasonable, tax is £165 a year but servicing can be a bit pricey if you stick with main dealers - plugs have to be changed every service. I just paid nearly £600 for my last service (but that include a brake fluid change and an MOT). Basically treat every service as a major service. Will run happily on 95Ron but super unleaded is preferred.
Brakes are the scary part and are fearsomely expensive to replace but there are aftermarket options now from the likes of Godspeed which make the costs a bit more palatable but will still be expensive when compared to something like a Golf GTi.
Been utterly reliable in my brief ownership (ok, I replaced a key fob battery for £2 ) and has been throughly enjoyable.

I've read a little around the brakes issue and it would be the first thing I'd look at on a potential purchase.
Re:torque steer, it sounds pretty much like my RS Meganes and not as wayward as a 290 Cupra I had for a short while. That thing really didn't want to go in a straight line and never really flowed down a road until it was in 4th gear or above.
With the economy you mention and what appears to be a sizeable boot, they really do look a good alrounder. There's a couple local to me that I might go take a peek at today. Thanks again.
200 Cup recently picked up in Hong Kong. Around 10 RS Clios here in total (all phases), this being my desired spec was a great opportunity. Was exported UK > HK at some cost back in 2013.
My old Monaco Blue ph2 172 back in the day on UK soil. Needed a quick sale at the time - now seeing one with similar mileage listed in the classifieds for GBP7000, a regrettable sale. Would’ve loved to have stored it.
