Renaultsport Megane Cup S 275
Discussion
Nick - thanks again for your comments about the brakes
I just missed you at the ring - was there 23- 27 July - would've loved to get a pax with you.
I went in 500+ bhp r32 GTR and frankly shat myself hitting 150 mph at one point, as much as I love it I seriously think I'd have more fun in a slower car on that track.
A mates brand new focus rs didn't fare so well... Lots of warning lights on the dash and warped discs lol! He did do 4 laps straight at over half hour non stop abuse lol! His tyres were pretty hammered too lol
Have fun at Bedford and keep us posted how it goes
Can anyone tell me what spec to go for if I want to be able display oil/water temps and corner g and lap times? - haven't spoken to any Renault salesman that has a clue yet.
Does anyone have any experience of both the ohlins and renaultsport suspension? Is it worth the extra? - the evo test barely made a few tenths of a second over a lap.
Sorry for all the questions!
Sam

I've driven cars fitted with both. Does anyone have any experience of both the ohlins and renaultsport suspension? Is it worth the extra? - the evo test barely made a few tenths of a second over a lap.

The Ohlins work well, especially on the 19's, but when I tested them they were on a hard setting, even so, they were firm but no uncomfortable.
At times, on truly st roads the std suspension can become a little overwhelmed. Howeverm 99% of the time it's perfectly fine.
On the facelift cars, you will want Rlink (tell by the larger screen on the dash, slightly different button layout on the controls both on the stereo and on the sat nav control.
They have a larger single knob in the middle, with less buttons all round.
Depending on budget, i would be looking at a late model Cup-S or nav with Cup chassis fitted. They're going for pretty good value at the moment, and certainly are worth it.

Huge thanks for this. Would these cars have it? The Ohlins work well, especially on the 19's, but when I tested them they were on a hard setting, even so, they were firm but no uncomfortable.

Both of those have Cup & R Link, the first one has Recaros too.
Not sure if the red pack on the Titanium one works IMO, looks very fussy!!
Thank you - so with that spec they'd both display g/laptimes/temps etc? Not sure if the red pack on the Titanium one works IMO, looks very fussy!!
Agree about the red pack - I went to see that car a few weeks ago when it was advertised at 20k. They said they'd repaint the red bits to match the titanium or give me £400 off. They've now dropped the price by over 1 k!!

Looks like they both do yes, no pictures on the Titanium one though which just seems silly!! The RS Monitor is an option on R-Link so not sure if they do. I have the full spec here but it doesn't explicitly say stuff like 'RS monitor', it says silly stuff like...
LEVEL 3 TYPE 5 NAVIGATION
WITHOUT TELEMATIC FAULT INVESTIGATION SYSTEM
Etc, If I had a Reg of one that definitely has it I could have a cross reference.
Plug one of these into the OBD port and you can read all the engine sensors via a phone app.

The get this app for recording track work:

Produces videos like this on an iphone. This was a lap from Blyton last Sat where I was testing our Exige. Can link into a go pro for higher quality footage.

Great info
I use Harry's lap timer too. I find in playback the corner g and mph can lag sometimes. Do you use any extra gps thing with it?
Great photo from my friends at frozenspeed and many thanks to Nick for the lap. Thanks also for all the information shared so freely on this forum!
I’m seriously impressed with the Cup S and looking forward to taking mine to the Ring in the autumn. Anyone going to be at DN16?

DN16 the double header at the end of September? I'm 95% going to be there.
Good morning at Bedford. Very, very slippery but still enough grip to get the front tyres hot and to work the brakes hard enough for them to leave deposits on the discs. Got mild vibration now.
Better brakes are an absolute must if they can't cope with a damp greasy slippery track.
I'm back at the hotel now with the kids, my missus is on her way to the track for the afternoon session.
EDIT: I've bottled it with the DS2500S, not convinced they'll do the job for me so I've ordered some Pagid RS29S. Anyone want some DS2500S? Special price.
