Welcome to the club. Sounds like you've bought it for the right reasons and i've no doubt you'll love it.

So who had the update done and how difficult is it to deal with the stealerships?

Ive engaged one local to me (naturally they haven't a clue what Im on about) and by the sound of it they want me to bring the car to them, explain the problem and leave it with them while they investigate the issue. I've explained its a software update.

What cryptographic secret language do i need to speak to them to get it fixed?

Well if you ever manage to navigate that minefield perhaps you would be good enough to explain how I can buy a touchup kit from Renault?!

Still a fantastic piece of kit mind, which just keeps getting better!

Well folks took delivery of a brand new Liquid Yellow Megane RS Cup-S today with the titanium exhaust and sitting on black 19" wheels.

Liking it a lot! Bit of a contrast to my 5l XKR that I swapped it for.

One question - the gear throw feels a bit long and imprecise for such an otherwise nicely sorted car. Is there a short shift kit for this model? If so what the are pros can cons of fitting one (oh and cost!).

Cheers

It involves drilling and tapping a new ball pivot onto the gear selector arm on top of the box.

It's not a TL4 but i's the plate on top:
http://www.renault-spares.co.uk/ekmps/shops/renaul...

It'll look different on the megane but that's how people have done it iirc.

That or this: http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=532... but I'd try find it somewhere else.

It does feel a bit long and they do require you to be quite positive and firm on shifts.

Ill try find a link someone has done a write up on the short shifter mod.

At first i found selecting gears a bit odd to begin with.

Spanked the megane tonight for an hour or 2. My god what a car. The way it just pulls you round a corner is insane.

Guys who have spec'd Ohlins, did the dealer supply the tools for adjusting the ride height or do you need to buy them from Ohlins?

Mine are nowhere to be seen, I've contacted the dealer and RUK but no luck.

Cheers.

Quick update after having the car for 2 days now.

It's bloody epic! Sport or RS modes are compulsory obviously and I have set the map to the one below "extreme" on the sport setting - can't remember what it's called just now. Very good with no jerkiness and plenty of immediate poke. Start / stop in normal mode is predictably soul destroying.

When pushing on the power delivery is excellent and slightly reminiscent of my old Scooby WRX Sti type UK (the proper wide track 2l version rather than the later 2.5 one). Less power but much more enjoyable since it is delivered across a broader rev range. It is still clearly a forced induction engine but it is not a million miles off a N/A feeling save for the slight lack of top end revs available. Rev matching on downshifts is a joy and it so nice to be able to power out though the corners - unlike the XKR which it replaces (that was frankly tiresome due to the immense torque and therefore had to be driven at about 3/10ths in anything other than perfect conditions).

Also love how adjustable the chassis is. It moves around a fair bit but it is so controllable that it is fun rather than concerning.

Great steering feel and great seats, once you find the right position. Nice brakes too.

I have to admit that when I traded in the XKR I was worried that I was being a total idiot but going from a 500bhp RWD luxury GT to this little yellow monster is the best thing I have done for a long time.

Any tips / tricks regarding the settings through the R-Link system? There seem to be a few idiosyncrasies which may be down to my lack of knowledge - like how the screen won't come on unless you turn the stereo on first. Would be nice to access the screen display without risking hearing about Donald Trump on the radio!

And no of course I have not read the manual yet!!

Glad you're enjoying it. I wish I had rs monitor. Won't lie it is humbling to hear that you prefer the grufty Renault over the beautiful Jag.

It really is an epic machine. Did a 2 hr spanking the other night and the car was utterly insane. The way it eats corners is insane. The way the diff drags you round corners is insane. It's just a brilliant car to drive and I still can't quite believe what it can do in a set of twisty roads.

I have to ask how good these cars are round corners????

I think its best I take the car on track and find out. It seems to be a case of put the accelerator to the bulkhead and just worry about steering and what the front wheels are doing. Massively antisocial cornering abilities on mine. I dont get the twitchy rear end with the 245 tyres either now. Find myself coming out of a corner and wondering how the hell it went round it that quickly.

I was on track again yesterday. The Megane was only 3 seconds a lap slower than my Exige S (3.5 V6, 350bhp). And the Exige is on better tyres. Can believe how much they don't understeer. Felt a bit soft on the suspension side, like it needs more damping and stiffer springs but you cant argue with the cars performance so Renault are definitely doing something right! Brakes are still a weak point though. The Pagid RS29s I'm running were pushed out their comfort zone so I've ordered some Pagid RST1s for the front and RS14s for the rear.

I could have sworn that the car suddenly dropped a chunk of power in one session, don't know if Im imagining it or its the knock sensor issue. Just occurred to me that I filled up on the way there with super unleaded then stuck normal Tescos in it at lunch time. I only really noticed the power drop in one afternoon session, maybe due to the lower octane fuel. Or maybe its all in my head.

Anyone had anything back either way from the dealers?

On a secondary note Renault had recalled the stereo and my local dealer replaced it with another foc. Anyone else had this done?

R281151350R OTS OCE4 Radio are the details of the recall work on the invoice.

Has anyone actually managed to persuade the dealers to look without taking the car in for a 2 week diagnosis? I have no intention of leaving my car at a dealership for more than an hour or two.

Name the dealers? I would travel to a good dealer to avoid the hassle. I think my nearest dealer is Slough.

Just picked up one of the last of these off the production line.
Ohlins, Akrapovic, 19's, Recaro's, R Link, Pilot Cup Tyres, plus a couple of other things.
Good discount too.
Great to be back ina Renault.

Hi Folks,

Any consensus on what the best tyre pressure are for the 275 Cup-S on 19s?

Hand book say 35 front, 30 rear if I recall but I think I read somewhere that these were not necessarily ideal, or at least that the cars tend to get delivered with incorrect pressures. Had mine a week or two and have not got round to checking them yet!

Car feels good but the fronts don't seem to bite in the corners quite as well as I had expected.

Actually just answered at least part of my earlier question.

Checked the pressures and sure enough the fronts were up at 38.5 (instead of 35) whilst one rear was 35 and the other 31 (instead of 30). Nice!

Adjusted back to recommended pressures so we shall see if that improves the handling tomorrow. I suspect it will!

So is 35 front, 30 rear the way to go or would you folks recommend different pressure?

For clarity I don't give a toss about economy, the best possible grip and handling is what I'm after.
