Renaultsport Megane Cup S 275
Discussion
Hello all
3 weeks into my new car. 275 nav with 19's and the cup chassis.
Interested in the feed to read all the comments. Don't normally do forums but was interested to read about the car
My first Renault since a GT5 turbo which I wish I never sold.
Been in focus ST's for the last 10 years and the megane was bought on price, reputation and the fact I wanted a change.
Liking it but finding the power delivery very different to the focus. Out grips and handles the focus, but different car in many ways.

Ive a 275 Nav with Cup and 18's and came from a MK3 ST (Pre facelift). I always say the Focus was an 8/10th's car a bit like an S3 or Golf R and the Meg a 10/10th's car and I didnt think the Meg had the mid range grunt of the Focus but in return pulled hard to its redline with the typical F4R trait of really going for it those last few nuggets. It just didn't feel like it pulled as well or was as quick in a straight line. In the focus I couldn't keep up with my mates S3 (260hp) where as the Megane will out-run it on the same road. Cornering is a whole other world in the meg though. 3 weeks into my new car. 275 nav with 19's and the cup chassis.

Yes I was in a pre facelift st as well. I also had 2 2.5 St's as well.
Generally they were great cars but they wheelspan in the wet and torque steered. Great GT cars tho.
The cornering is amazing in the meg, but the pay off is the hard and fidgety ride. You can see that on a track the meg would murder the focus. I went for a B road blast and scared the wife, never did that in the focus.
My issue is with the engine. Mine seems to have a rev limiter way below the red line. The engine is warm but it keeps bouncing at about 5.5k. Is that normal?.

Yes
The F4R block is sensitive to oil temps so Renault introduced rev limits on the Clio (and thus the Megane Turbo too)
Until your oil is fully up to temp the limiter is reduced to protect the engine.
If you've got RSMonitor you can check Water and Oil temps separately.
If not, your temp gauge is water rather than oil.

I know the oil takes a lot longer than the water to warm up as the focus used to have an oil temp gauge.
I haven't got the monitor on my car, but it was still doing it after driving for 20 min by which time I would have thought the oil should be up to temp
Yeah I give mine 15-20 mins to warm up, get the turbo and gearbox warmed up, if not longer, lack of oil cooler is the one thing I miss from the Focus. When cold itll kick in before 5k though??. Not that I make a habbit of this, I just know because sometimes needs must. Hope you're actually enjoying the Meg. I loved the Focus at first and gradually came to dislike it (especially when I bought the Meg). Where as I didnt like the Meg at first, but came to love it after taking it out for a proper spanking one evening. I accept that the day to day drawbacks (of which there are many) are far outweighed by driving experience on full pelt. Which is more than I can say for the Focus.
I wish I had the RS monitor btw. I think that and the lsd are the only essential options for the car.
Yes it is growing on me
I love the looks and the lsd. I didn't like the seats to start with but now I find them fine.
I find the engine frustrating, if I'd wanted a car that hit the rev limiter at 5 k I would have bought a diesel!.
That said I am getting used to it and when you take it for a B road blast it reminds you why it got all the great reviews.
I have to say the build quality is better than I expected.
I am having an issue with bird strikes! Don't know if it's the colour but I've hit 3 birds already and 1 has cracked the bumper
