I take your point what matters like any asset is what someone will pay to own it, but it's quite clear these are an appreciating cult classic
Frankly what else can you get for the money that's so good?!

I seem to recall this car being advertised a few months ago? Scotland, Lunar Grey, One owner, 4K blah blah. It's the starting price. On PH at £28500.

After looking at them for a few weeks I can't help thinking that these car prices are more about what sellers like to think the cars are worth (and where prices are going) than anything else. Very very few seem to sell. One has been up for sale for about 6 months (now at sub £20k with 41k on the clock). At best I think they will hold their value well but as for an appreciating classic? Very little points to that beyond what any relatively decent performance car that's cherished for many years would achieve.
Prices are all over the place.
Like this one.... it's been for sale forever and IIRC at one point it was £19k? Now at £22k. Makes no sense.

For me any car over £20k must have full cage and titanium exhaust, unless it's in a rare colour such as grey, yellow or blue.
Do Renault still supply new titanium exhaust?

To mainain value will need originality and keeping mileage reasonable

A mint one might be a bit of a liability in the real world
Spot on.Would anyone really take a mint, low mileage R26R on track? Much like E30 M3 / 964 RS etc since the price explosion craziness.

They probably saw the other prices and repriced theirs. Garages are often not specialists and don't always see why one car is worth more than another. Given how long any are taking to sell I am glad I am not doing the same.Like this one.... it's been for sale forever and IIRC at one point it was £19k? Now at £22k. Makes no sense.

^^ Anyone please? ^^
I bought one back about 2014 which had a new Ti system from Renault parts dept, receipt price was around £2000. Whether they still have them would need to enquire. An R26.R without Ti and/or cage, needs to be price deducted accordingly, hence a few cars (probably very good ones) sitting around sub £20K that would have otherwise sold. It does distort the market a bit for the uninitiated watcher.
Agree about Renault saving weight, then adding a roll cage, not even a full one :-S
cant help noticing a very nice white 205 GTI is coming up at Silverstone Auctions at the end of the month... £28-32k estimate
i dont know enough about 205s to say if thats the right price. Sure they are rare now, but come on, nothing that special about them, just a good hot hatch
what I do know is that is essentially like seeing into the future of the R26.R
£50k in time.... super rare, exotic spec, press rave reviews etc

Yes, but it could be 20 years before the R26R is worth anything impressive potentially. I see the long term value of supercars being maintained but I do think the lesser models are suffering from people trying to jump on the bandwagon and the reality being that they are simply not desirable enough.
