Since buying my CTEK charger and running a full charge cycle on my Trophy it has been totally transformed, even the stop start has started to kick in at traffic lights. It makes me a little nervous given its history, but I haven't been beached at any junctions yet so fingers crossed. Also no error messages or low battery warnings since the charge.

I think I'll hook it up every couple of weeks to keep it topped up.

Not making any excuses for Renault as it's pretty poor that you need to do this with a modern car, and there's no way it should have been signed off as it is, but I do think the lockdown periods haven't helped. Nearly everyone is running lower mileage than normal and it's clear these batteries need to be used regularly to be reliable.
Ah - I noticed last week that my stop start had started working too and like you I had given it a full charge with the ctek. It must now be fully charged for the first time.

Glad you’re (kind of!) sorted. We really haven’t had that many issues with them, but most of our demos do get used daily in one form or another so it’s not really been an issue.

We’ve just put on a new demonstrator, Titanium Grey 300 facelift. I’m definitely missing the LSD though!

Also, despite the issues I'm still very glad I went for a Trophy over a 280. I don't know how much difference the extra 20bhp makes, but the exhaust is fantastic and I wouldn't have one without the front diff (though I think the 280 with Cup chassis gets this too?)
My 280 cup has the asbo exhaust and the LSD.

Thanks, still really enjoying mine! I do like them in Titanium Grey, nice and understated. I don't think there's a colour that doesn't look good on them.

The 280 doesn't have the valved exhaust of the Trophy, it's one of the reasons I went for one.

Well it sounds good enough for me in sports mode, and is certainly loud enough / and the pops n bangs are well just a little bit embarrassing- as its a lease I wouldn't be sticking anything else on it. Given the noise I'm surprised there is a difference, everyday a school day.

I tried a Trophy before buying my Cup and the exhaust is definitely more of an event in the Trophy.
I'm happy with the Cup, plenty of burbles, you just have to work harder for the cracks... As it were...

I'm not convinced there is a difference as per the below. I don't have to do much to make everyone think I'm a knob other then back off the throttle.

I collected my 69 plate 280Cup on the 12th October.

It has the gpf fitted and you still get the pops and bangs, particularly in "sport" and "race" mode. Bit of heat in the exhaust and it gets very noticeable!

Along with the gpf you also supposedly get the upgraded turbo as fitted to the trophy model, so presumably it's a combination of the mapping (via an extra bit of boost?) and possibly the exhaust that provide the Trophy's extra 20bhp.

I've not seen a super clear explanation as the exhaust differences, save the 280 supposedly changes its routing due to exhaust pressure and the trophy by an electronically controlled valve. Yet at idle in the 280 changing the mode to sport or race from neutral instantly changes the exhaust note without affecting idle.

Could always put the exhaust in normal mode and still have the dynamics of sport mode via the perso menu if you don't want to 'make everyone think you're a knob'!

If they are anything like the exhaust on the Mk3 they will calm down a bit as the miles get put on them. My 275 popped and banged like mad on the over-run once hot when I got it. Not so much now it’s got 30k miles worth of soot in the exhaust.

This is standard rather than Akro option.

I really like the mk4, we've been in the market for a hot hatch since the start of the pandemic and these have always been on my radar, but I can't buy a car for the wife (that I like to have fun in) and risk any reliability issues, or expect her to put it on charge every now and again. It needs to be able to do short school runs, visit the shops and a b road hoon with me in it, that's the entire point of a hot hatch.

Carwow were offering a fully optioned, brand new trophy in red with 8k off, that was 34k, branny spanky. With the battery issue, it could be 25k and would still be too much, it's not a risk I'm willing to make. Renault need to sort it out. Compared to all the other hot hatches, the arse is falling out of these and I've been watching them for a while.

Just don’t get a Trophy if you really want a Mk4. That’s what I’ll do if I do opt for another Megane, as it’ll be a daily driver that has to get me to work. Crap battery is unique to the Trophy as far as I’m aware.

I agree Renault have made a right balls up with this.

Yes many have confirmed on the FB group that the trophy has a much more “vocal” exhaust over the standard RS.
Maybe the MY21 cars are more even 🤷🏼‍♂️

I bought mine without driving one and was suprised at the ridiculous amounts of pops and bangs from it!! They make me giggle a bit when on the back B road and in race tbh just adds an extra bit of theatre...
And as said previously just pop it into comfort and switched all drama off.

I have had battery problem once in 4 months of very little use ... I can live with that tbh and as the poster says before “even if it was 25k I’d opt out in risk of it not starting once”. Well that’s mental. Save £8-10,000 for the possibility of the car not wanting to start once or twice !? Suppose we’re all different.

I have a Ctek charger so may plug mine in at weekend just to see if it reconditions battery a little.. almost like a service every few months... I can live with that no problem. At the same time I may never have a problem again!

Don’t agree with this. You’ll buy a golf gti cheaper than an equivalent 280 for age and miles. Trophy’s haven’t really dropped below 25 in the last 12-18 months. They’re a good car and a bit different to the usual choices.

Saw a silver RS yesterday (think Trophy but not 100%) near sherburn in elmet, north yorkshire. First one I've ever seen on the road (apart from mine!). Anyone on here by any chance? Plate began RS04

Took everything I could throw at it !

I've been tracking hot hatch prices for apx a year, the recent increase has stopped me from buying one.

Criteria is 18 plate or above <10k miles, I've recorded the cheapest available. Meg options don't affect the price as much as the others. But they are definitely trending lower than anything else.

I live within 20 miles of Sherburn-in-Elmet and sadly haven't seen it... bit of a unicorn if it's Highland Grey (Renault's strange choice of name for Silver...)

I was looking at R.S's on Autotrader for 3 months before buying mine, and still have alerts turned on so I get emails of new additions. To this day I haven't seen a Silver one for sale. Shame they aren't more popular as I think they look dead classy.

Out of interest Quickmick is yours White or Red by any chance? I've only ever seen those two locally.
