Lightweight battery most likely but also could be many other things if it just died... As the ION battery is so expensive you cannot just put another one in (stock shortages as well hard to find anywhere although you
can buy an alternative which appears to be the same product 10 times cheaper!). Best case scenario is it's the battery given up (I presume the car has not had the firmware update which introduces a computer power save mode equivalent to reduce draw?). Cheapest thing to do is get a decent jump start pack first see if you can start the car keep it running for a while to charge the battery a little. Drive to an RS master technician main dealer! If it's not holding the charge enough to keep the engine running then its new battery time but they are really expensive. Best thing is to get to a decent RS Master Technician they will be able to find the fault & advise!
Nice one, thank you.

Anyone with an ALD lease managed to extend their lease? Probably the initial 280 offer as my 300 trophy deal doesn't end until August.

Due to covid and now a car share I will be 10k under my mileage come August. I also have an extra year on the service pack as I was due to be limited by mileage rather than years. I was hoping to get a cheap years motoring, as there appears to be no decent lease deals!

It's 3 months without a car, or 6 months max if you have proof of ordering another car. Hire was charged at a day rate which you get invoiced for every month, for the previous months ownership.

Thanks Trif,

That is a shame, looks like it will be going back in August then. Likely to be replaced with a B8 Audi S4 Avant, circa 2012.

This is my old one up for sale.

Endless battery problems used to drive me potty and left me stranded about 4 times. Loved but wouldn't have another.

You can just put a std 50amp battery in them apparently & no more battery problems! Major Renault BS around the ERS system & it would not recharge via the alternator at all apparently........
Spanish RS MK4 owners have been using 50amp std batteries for several years with no problem reported at all on Trophy's!!

Due to an admin error by the lease company I managed to extend for another year at a reduced rate on my Trophy. Going to get a rude awaking when it comes to sorting out the next car after this - everything else will be expensive and dull...

With the battery I have found that giving it a trickle charge over night every now and again is useful - still a daft battery to put into the car.

If I leave my 280 Cup for a few days, then start it, I almost always get 'Check power steering' pop up. Off and back on and it's gone. From what I gather this is a battery issue, which given how long the car tends to stand between runs (and covid didn't help either), that wouldn't surprise me.

Was tempted to get the battery changed at the next service, but based on Renault's servicing costs these days I'll probably sort it myself. Thankfully I don't think the 280 has the lightweight battery that the 300 has, so it seems a fairly normal £130 quid battery from Tanya should do the job...

Nope but the glass used is very weak compared to the glass they used on the MK3 Meganes!

I am about to have my front windscreen replaced & within a few weeks of getting brand new last year got stone chips on all windows including the rear hatch!

Trophy 300 EDC owner. Any members had to replace the rear pads and discs after 18k, flagged up red at the latest service. I think they quoted £800 for discs and pads plus labour! Pads do look very worn, I was thinking just replace the pads.... car is on lease, goes back in 5 months so don't want to spend money on it. My first 3 year lease, will only do 2 years in future. Can get OEM pads for £68 and discs for £280 online. Just find it hard to believe the discs need doing, but they do look pretty bad, maybe the calipers been binding?

My front pads went last year down to 5% after 24K miles from new (all done in the same year!). Now both my front & rear pads need replacing plus front discs (70% front wear 60% rear wear). I have all the parts already just waiting to fit them all (easy DIY job).

Your front discs must be the OEM std plain type as the grooved Trophy 300 discs are around £500 a pair or £234 each plus shipping! Renault globally are OOS its a 2 week waiting list for those right now.

OEM front pads are around £340 as you need the Brembo pins kit as well.

800 for discs & pads is a good deal but you will find most if not all UK Renault dealers have no stock & cannot get any anytime soon either! Renault are having issues supplying most common parts right now..... (most likely their new cars are not selling well & the company is in crisis!).

Its all down to how hard you drive the car so if you brake sharply a lot expect to replace them a lot!

That's great. He's talking about the rear brakes though wink

Has the car been driven on track with the stability control on? This can cook the rear brakes on lots of cars as it uses them to settle the car in the turns.

Got around 30k out of the rear brakes on my MK3 Megane RS. I never turn the driver aids off, but it's never been on track either.

Rear glass replaced, no obvious cause but fell apart properly. So if ever trapped in your car that the exit to go for.

Thanks for the reply Man Child, but I was talking about the rears.

Never driven on track, but it does get the the odd spirited drive on a country road. Quite a few thinking about the first 5k when I got it. Looking at the discs again today they do look pretty corroded as well. Will get the rear discs and pads done, just a little annoying when it goes back soon. Should be able to get it done for half what Renault wanted.

Anyone noticed the price these are going for now a couple of years old? I had been thinking about buying one, but with the Recaros and uprated stereo, but can't justify it!

I also have a Trophy on a 3 year lease and going to give it back early as it needs new tyres all round, front disks/pads (rears seem okay to be fair), major service & MOT - that's probably £2k I don't want to spend.

Are people using their cars on track? I give my Trophy what I would consider a fair amount of spirited road driving, and after 3.5 years & 27k miles I'm still on the original rear tyres and all discs/pads are in good shape, so I'm at a loss as to why so many are needing brakes doing at 3-4 years old??

I am halfway through my third set of front tyres though, it really has an appetite for those.

Glad to hear you still have it matey!!

I can’t remember what tyres yours had on it? I think it had the Fuji wheels but we fitted the OEM tyre on them?

Yes, thanks for twisting my arm to take it off your hands! I really wanted a Recaro-eqipped car but I've long since forgotten about that, it's still brilliant to drive. Longest I've ever owned a car.

It came with the Bridgestone S001's all round, but I've been putting S007's on the front which are miles better. I suspect Michelin Pilot Sports would be even better but didn't want to mix tyres, I'll probably replace all four with Michellins if I keep it long enough.

Bit of a unicorn my spec I think, I've not seen many (if any) Trophys with the standard cloth seats, and the Fuji wheels were, if I remember correctly, a misbuild?

Yes it wasn’t ordered with the Fuji wheels, it just arrived with them, we didn’t even get charged, and my boss wanted S001 (he thought the S007 weren’t safe for the road!) so got RUK to pay for a new set of S001 rofl

It’s a peachy car, glad it’s still being enjoyed. I have moved on from Renault now, it’s sad to say that the Trophy is probably the best last car they’ll ever build, the new Megane is a sacrilege to the Megane name.
