So hoping to pick my 280 up within the next couple of days, tomorrow all going well.. a couple more quick questions please.

Battery - how long does the standard battery tend to last with the car sitting unused? Does it need to be on a trickle after so many days?

Remapping, what options are there out there for tuning? I'm not looking for huge gains, more just a bit of mid range increase. Are remote plug in maps still a thing?

Edit - any good owners forums around?

I didn't drive mine for a whole month due to a injury and it started up without incident.

Never had issues with the battery on my 280.

I would try and live with the car unmapped to start with. It's reasonably quick as std and probably traction limited.

Only the 300s have battery issues I think. And mine was a nightmare. Left me stranded half a dozen times in two years.

Only Trophy 300 & Trophy R have the battery issues.

You can also just put a std battery into them spanish RS owners have been doing that for over 2 years now with no issues whatsoever!

No issue with 280 battery over lock down, I've got all the interior lights/ stupid welcome roar etc all switched off in the settings too which also helps when cleaning etc.

Is the mapping different on the auto box (is there a remap available for the box)? Must admit just back from a spirited drive (manual) and run it for over 18k miles and not really thought it needed more in the remapping department- unless you live on the Isle of Man or access to more free roads then have a play first and if you get bored and aren't in jail it'll be like a new car...

Picked the car up last night and delighted with it so far.

The colour is fantastic, and quite hard to picture, especially in the dark so apologies for the terrible picture. It really flips and has lots of depth to it under sunlight.

I think I've picked a good one. 2018, only 16 miles and seems to have most options ticked. Bose, sunroof, RS monitor, etc. I'm not sure exactly what all was optional Vs standard. The seats, although not the recaros I wanted, are very comfortable and the heated function are a bonus. The wife approves and so does my 4 year old. He loves the noise.

To drive, it's quick enough but feel the chassis is the star. It is very good and almost leads to the car feeling underpowered. It could do with a bit more mid range. Steering is direct if lacking a bit of feedback. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I really like all the tech and driving modes. I need to spend some time sifting through the menus to have a play with everything.

Dog fits in the boot and have fitted a dog mat to protect the surfaces.

Petrol tank is tiny! Only managed about 36 litres from petrol light to full . Is that right?

Overall, really chuffed.

Nice, glad you like it so far.

Just checked last time was on vapours and managed to put in 44 litres, I seem re recall 45 is most I've squeezed in.

Parkers say 50 litres: https://www.parkers.co.uk/renault/megane/hatchback...

Lovely RS Justin! What area are you roughly please ? We should meet up for a drive out if your not too far from London or South East!

Fuel tank yes they are only 50 litres so in race mode you will get around 220 miles or so before needing a top up. In other lower power engine modes you can get up to 250-275 miles. These engines are highly tuned hence the high fuel consumption!

Mine had a few issues last year. Constantly had the 'power steering fault', which is a symptom on a low battery.

Ended up sticking it on the CTEK charger I use for my Caterham, and after running a full recond, it's been fine ever since! That was over a year ago.

I wouldn't worry about the seats. I had the Recaros in my 250 Cup, but the standard seats in my 280. I find them just as supportive, but softer and more comfortable. I had the Clio in between and these seats are far better than the Trophy seats were in that.

Never mind mate at least you use it! So many people hardly use theirs...

There are a few RS owners in scotland who have Trophys or few Trophy R even. One chap has a newish Flame Red Trophy he is in Aberdeen I think. Not sure how you contact them though!!

I've had mine now for about 5 months, so well out of the 'new car / honeymoon' period. Thoughts, its a fantastic all rounder. It really fits us well, with even my wife approving and will happily drive it whenever I need her car for dog/skip duties etc. She normally refuses to drive my previous cars.

As above, I also had the occasional 'Power Steering Fault' alarm on start up, but this has gone away since I gave the battery a full charge over night.

It's due a service in a few months and going to get it a full health check done, I think the air con needs regassed (hopefully nothing worse) and I have a slight knocking noise from the drivers side rear, which oddly seems worse at low speed. I suspect its an exhaust mount or similar has gone but hard to tell without getting underneath it.

Still delighted with it. Drives very well, makes the right noises when you want it so, and the tech is all fantastic. Performance is good, and don't actually feel the need to tweak its mapping anymore. The headlights especially, probably the best I've ever had on a car. Brilliant at night. I'd like to look into some way of carrying my bike in or on it.

My brother used to own a Golf R and I spent quite a bit of time with it, both cars are very similar. The Megane a bit more unique which is why I prefer it, but the Golf I'd say felt slightly better screwed together.

Looking at a 2018 RS280 EDC with 40k miles.

Anyone able to comment on the following:

Reliability - how is it and is the auto box potentially a problem? I see warranties for this year was 3 years rather than 5 and is that because Renault knew there was a potential 4 year plus issue?

Comfort as a daily - is it usable and reasonably smooth and peaceful when you're not in the mood or is it noisy and rough most of the time?

280 or 300/Trophy - is the difference that noticeable between them?

Thanks

Funnily enough my old one pulled in at a service station while I was filling my van up and was a bit of a chance passing as guy was from Inverness! (im in Carlisle)

Still looked great, guy was retired and possibly 70ish.. he was eager to show me under the hood where he had lots of tasteful mods he added biggrin

Also This reminds me I still have M T2OPHY on retention if anyone wants it
