RE: Renault launches hard-nut Mégane

It has to be said, young Fernando looks well chuffed to be associated with it. I wonder if he'll have a bigger smile on his face when a similar picture is produced next year. McLaren Mercedes SLR F1 anyone?
That's why he's smiling like he is, he knows his team-mates have that as their company car this year...Tripps said:

...they should have made a decent gain in real world performance by adding the LSD.
But is it a real LSD? Apparently yes....

I hired a renault megane in Spain a couple of years ago...it was awful to drive. This year hoping renault had moved on, in Spain i hired a megane convertible...that wasn't a lot better and the only advantage was being able to drop the steel roof at the press of a button. So...is a hot megane really worth it. I bet a Clio is more fun!!!

Yep, the Trophy could really benefit with one to go along with the dampers, although I sometimes think a quicker rack/smaller wheel would be good too.

Drove a few Renault rentals and they were all rubbish to put it mildely. The Clio Trophy's a different story though. Very capable and lots of fun.

5-Bhp more. Bloody hell. It really is special.
That's the first thing I thought too.
I doubt it is going to be a big seller, LSD is probably the best of the additions.

You would of had to take LSD to buy one of these.
Yet another average car, and yet another step back from the glory days of the badass Turbo 1&2.
Why can't Renault just take a chance and produce some nuts auto that really shocks us all.
Its not like they haven't got the technology.

What so the old Clio V6 wasnt nuts enough for you?
How many special editions?
182, 182cup, 182 trophy
megane 255, Megane 255 F1 whatsitcalled, Megane 230 blah blah.
Let me guess:
197, 197 cup, maybe even a trophy a few years later to shift the last few.
So don't buy a 197 cos you know next year the cup will be out with better suspension.
And I bet you'd be rather pissed off if you've just got a meg 255 F1. Now the LSD on the new model makes that look a rather poor choice!
How to piss of loyal customers!
I'll stick with my mk2 Vee thanks!

Totally agree with the above replies. Hate to say it but can't help thinking this is a marketing ploy.
Okay, Renault have made some astonishing hot hatches recently i.e Clio Cup Trophy edition, but I can't help but feel that the latest Megane is trying to jump on the band wagon.
In my own opinion, I'd rather have two slightly older cars that fit their purposes precisely i.e. a quick, capable, comfortable car for the daily jaunt to work / the odd long motorway drive, and a truely focused car for those times when you feel you really need one, rather than possibly compromising both of these criteia in one car!
However, the above is only IMO, and i'm sure that in a lot of circumstances the new Megane is a great car!!

Strange how VW have made such a success of the larger hot hatch (after all, the Polo GTI was never a success) whereas Renault fans prefer the smaller Clio. The Megane R26 is competing against the R32 - the residuals alone would push you to the VW.
OF course there'll be lots of different models - the F1 car is different nearly every race, and has significant technical tweaks several times a year. The PH focussed sports model is going to receive the same treatment, with each tweak adding slightly to the previous performance level. The LSD definitely puts this towards the track day rather than every day drive, though only a test drive will see how useable this is on the normal roads. Hopefully the clutch will be less heavy than the one on the Clio Williams.
Glad that the graphics are optional - they look like some dealer special edition decals. Shame it's not available in a two tone yellow/blue like the F1 scheme.

Actually I'm quite surprised at the hammering this is getting from everyone.
If you look at the cars it's up against in it's class i.e. (Golf GTI, Focus ST), it's faster, more economical, far lower initial purchase price (*with available discounts), not everyone under the sun has one and you'll actually be able to get hold of them pretty easily.
Seems like a lot of positives to me.
I went round all the showrooms the other week looking completely in an unbiased way and thought that the interior of the leather 225 (not the cup) was the nicest out of the models as well. Focus is bl**dy awful inside.
