Drive by wire weirdness?

Had just jet washed my car (306 Hdi) driving down a dual carriageway and hadn't braked, so just left my foot lightly on the throttle while I pressed the brakes.
Just being curious I left my foot on and after around a second or so the engine just went dead, and I could put my foot right down on the throttle and it just made no difference to the engine output...

Is this one of those tampering drive by wire things? Seems a bit odd that it would sense you were doing that and cut the throttle back!?

Or could there be a reasonable reason for it I wonder... Hmmmm??

My petrol Seat Ibiza would do that, first time i was pushing it a bit i left foot braked into a corner and found it didnt give me the desired effect i was looking for

Think it is a safety feature so as not to stress the engine or brakes.

Or think of it as nannying control-freakery getting in the way of proper driving.

Indeed, in snow you can left foot brake a fwd to get a very rudimentary diff lockup so both wheels drive, to hell with that idea now

Might see if I can un-tick that box in my ECU software editing mission

Cutting the power when you touch the brakes seems like a common trick with drive-by-wire systems. It does seem common though that you can override this if you take your foot right off the throttle and then reapply while holding the brakes on, so left-foot-braking may still be possible, just a bit more awkward.
