306gti-6 strange noises!

Got some weird noises coming from the car, need an engine mount replacing (rear stabiliser one-on bottom of engine,just started to perish) when pulling away and braking there is a loud crack. Could this be down to engine mount or would it be likley suspension probs/ball joint?
Any ideas on things that usually go on the 6? also my speedo is a bit tempramental is it cable or electronic?!

The top offside engine mount seat is known to seperate and fail where the bolt enters the sub-fram/chassis...
This can have the effect of a cracking noise when the engine deflects and the mount pulls forwards and backwards on the bolt tearing the metal base.
Mount off and weld a new plate in, then chock the mount because they have a fair bit of give as they get older (for some reason or other)...

Bit of an FAQ on the change there, but it's the bit underneath that goes and you need to repair.
